There and Back Again --- a Hobbit's Holiday! :-) The Nields and the Kennedys played to a very enthusiastic, seemingly starved-for-Nields-and-Kennedys Maine crowd. Here's what they played: The Kennedys Life Is Large River of Fallen Stars Angels Cry Why Winona Why Get It Right Didn't It Rain (w/ N&K) One Heart One Soul (w/ N&K) (my request) When I Go (w/ Bach guitar ending) Sirens Life Is Large Nerissa & Katryna Nields Haven't Got a Thing This Town Is Wrong Tailspin Amelia's Little Red Dog Caterpillar Song Snowman Christmas Carol Love & China This Happens Again & Again (off-mike) Enemy Called Pants (w/ P&M) The Sweetness (w/ P&M) Keys to the Kingdom (w/ P&M) HaHaHa This Girl Orphan Girl The Shortest Day Easy People Happy Christmas (War Is Over) (Maura v.1; N&K v.2; P&M v.3) Lo How a Rose E'er Blooming (NN, KN, Maura unaccompanied, v.1 only) FWIW (P&M v.1; N&K v.2 & v.3; P&M v.4) The crowd gave a standing ovation after each set: after TK, after TN, and after HaHaHa. They just loved the Kennedys and the Nields. And I just loved seeing Annie and Andy right there in the front row with me, cheering TN and TK on. Yay for A&A! Yay for N&K! Yay for Maine! Yay for the Kennedys, and Yay for Yay!!! Thank you for the clarification. I just hit "reply to all" to Ken's (cross-posted) post to the Nields Nook, and the reply went to Jangle-poets too. I was wondering if it would do that. I can't *tell* you how many times I've *wished* the Nields Nook were moderated, to weed out some of the riff-raff and unnecessary flaming that goes on from time to time there. Whereas I've not seen *one* flame war on this list since I signed on. I've never said a nasty thing about the Jangle-poets list *on this list*, and now I have cause for even deeper appreciation of what makes this list so special. If "Be Nice to Me" is the Nields Nook motto (because it is unmoderated), and if the Jangle-poets is moderated by Sheila, maybe the J-P motto ought to be, "Be Nice to Sheila." :-) Bruce Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Dec 2002 20:26:12 EST From: JanglePoets@aol.com Subject: Re: [JP] Re: list-serve (was "Nields-Kennedys-Susan Werner 12/7/02 Titusville... To be fair, I have not had to ban any post (except for Spam) since the list changed to a moderated forum, so the credit really has to go to all on this list who make it a pleasant and easy place to hang out. I hope never to have to use my powers. :) Peace, Sheila Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2002 00:26:16 EST From: Fantine729@aol.com Subject: [JP] review of TK's Monday night BAND show!! This is from another list, but it was thought that it might be of some interest! Peace, Sheila Date: Fri, 13 Dec 2002 10:13:22 -0500 From: "Henry Laura" Subject: NY IPO - Day Seven Monday, December 9 The Knitting Factory New York, NY The Knit is a larger room than the other venues and the sound was much louder as well. I have only seen three other shows here - Alex Chilton, David Byrne and Lou Reed. For the most part, the bookings are avant jazz, or names I don't know and . . . Tonight is for us. 8:30 The Kennedys Previously I had only seen The Kennedys performing other people's songs during The Beat Goes On Shows at The Bottom Line. At the most recent one 'The Wall of Sound: From The Ronettes To The Ramones' they sang Chapel Of Love (performed a la The Ronettes) at the close of which they kissed. I thought that they were a brother/sister act until that moment! The first thing you noticed about The Kennedy's tonight was their clothes. Maura was dressed in a pink patterned top and cherry red Chinese silk pants. Pete was wearing a black & white smoke patterned shirt over which he wore a sweater that contained a sharp, geometric image of a hipster. They looked cool. I had expected a soft, folk styled acoustic set. The Kennedys came out with electrics and were joined by a great rhythm section that drove them on throughout the set. A crowd favorite was their "tribute" song 'Why, Winona, Why?' from the new album, 'Get It Right'. Their songs are beautiful and beautifully sung. That you know from the records. Though the vocals were a little muddied by an overly loud sound system, the songs have an an urgency when played live that charged the room. They ended with Chelsea Embankment a long song from the fist album, 'River Of Fallen Stars'. This is a song that repeats the evocative names of London streets and that repetition is matched by trance inducing, psychedelic guitar playing that has Middle Eastern overtones throughout. I didn't know the song and raced up to tell them how much I loved it and where could I get it and . . . Maura explained that it was on their first and while not at the merch table she would be happy to get one from her car. Many thanks for that as I really like the record very much indeed.
