And that UU church was where I saw N&K with Chris & Meredith Thompson last 12/01. But when I arrived at the UU church this time, there was a sign on the door saying that the concert had been moved to Princeton Community Church in Pennington. So technically, this third HaHaHa show and second with Susan Werner was in Pennington, not Titusville. I lost Conehead almost immediately upon following him onto Route 395 in Alexandria, and only realized much later when it was too late that I had started following the wrong car. Just ask Bern about how bad my night vision is. Lost again! Once I looked at a map and figured out where I was, I was able to make my way out of the Beltway and get as far as a rest area in MD where I spent my second cold night in a row. At both Alexandria and Titusville I cooled my heels for a few hours at the same place as last year. In Alexandria this meant the George Washington Masonic Monument, a towering edifice with a great view of the DC area from the top. They even have a free guided tour, and took me places that they hadn't even taken me last time I was there. And it's got a lot of cool historic stuff, relics from the life of George Washington mostly. In Titusville this cooling of my heels (really staying warm) took place at Alphabooks at Washington Crossing mall, where they have a lot of great books marked down to half-price, and some even as low as $.94. Susan Werner played after the Kennedys and the Nields this time out. Here's what everyone played. The Kennedys: Bend in the River Angels Cry Can't Kill Hope With a Gun River of Falling Stars Why Winona Why Life Is Large (w/ N&K) Nerissa & Katryna Nields: Haven't Got a Thing (w/ P&M) The Sweetness (w/ P&M) Snowman Christmas Carol Best Black Dress 100 Names (w/ SW) Enemy Called Pants (w/ Maura) Mr. Right Now (w/ P&M) Keys to the Kingdom (w/ P&M) Susan Werner: Time Between Trains (w/ P&M) Shade of Grey Petaluma Afternoons St. Mary's of Regret Some Other Town Barbed Wire Boys Big Car Medley for Christmas, (jazz guitar (acoustic) duet w/ Pete): - --- The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting), Pete on melody - --- Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, SW on melody I'd Be Good For You HaHaHa w/ SW: Orphan Girl (same as at Birchmere) The Shortest Day (KN w/ Pete on guitar) Easy People (same as Birchmere w/ SW) For What It's Worth - --- SW v.1; P&M v.2; N&K v.3; Pete v.4 (different than Birchmere) Dona Nobis Pacem (same as Birchmere) HaHaHa w/ SW encore: John Lennon's Happy Xmas (War Is Over) "So this is Christmas And what have you done? Another year over And a new one just begun And so this is Christmas I hope you have fun The near and the dear one The old and the young A very Merry Christmas And a Happy New Year Let's hope it's a good one Without any fear And so this is Christmas For weak and for strong For rich and the poor ones The world is so wrong And so this is Christmas For black and for white For yellow and red ones Let's stop all the fight A very Merry Christmas And a Happy New Year Let's hope it's a good one Without any fear So this is Christmas And what have you done? Another year over And a new one just begun And so this is Christmas I hope you have fun The near and the dear one The old and the young A very Merry Christmas And a Happy New Year Let's hope it's a good one Without any fear War is over! If you want it War is over! Now!" - --- Maura v.1; KN v.2; SW v.3. The "War is over" ending was sung unaccompanied in 5-part harmony by SW, N&K, and P&M. Fantastic what HaHaHa w/ Susan Werner can do with just a very little rehearsal. And SW's jazz guitar duet with Pete was a real eye-opener. That was almost completely unrehearsed too. I already knew that *Pete* played guitar that well --- and here I thought that SW was just a *piano* virtuoso. Wow. I hope they do that again this week in Massachusetts. Sounds like they played just four songs. Wish I didn't live so far from the Kennedys' home turf!
