Baggins is me, BTW, and it's vital to understand that I even discovered the Kennedys in the first place because of following the Nields. It's because the Nields and the Kennedys philosophy of life bring out so much of the best in all of us, that I thought this whole item in its context might be of interest to Kennedys fans who are not also on the Nook. The original subject heading was "YAY4YAY!!!" Bruce ======== Forwarded from the Nields Nook ======== << wrote: < I'm just so happy I could shout :-) > > YAY!!!!! > > ~ what are you on, and where can i get some? and if you give me any of that "high on life" nonsense i'll be forced to hurt you ;) >> Look no further for a perfectly good explanation. "It's No Secret," Jefferson Airplane. "Love Is the Drug," Roxy Music. If someone calling herself the Lady can sing about "Blackbirds" and "Queen of Quiet," why can't a Baggins not-so-quietly crow about King of Nields all through the night and all the livelong day. Preciousss knows a thing or two about addictions, good addictions, and bad addictions. Gandalf Murphy has a non-LP song about good addiction called "Sunday in the Rain." I've been like a man possessed in a month of Sundays. "Everyday Is Like Sunday," Morrissey. Baggins has been putting Nields Numbers after his name since it became clear to him that he was going to make 300 at the December '01 Iron Horse Nields show. If all goes according to plan, the second Club Helsinki HaHaHa show on 12/15 will be 350. 50 Nields shows in one calendar year may be a record for Baggins, now in his 8th full year of dashing off on mad Nields holidays, "There and Back Again." This, to answer question, "What are you on, and where can I get some?" :-) Since 4/22/95, hardly ever passing up the opportunity to make the Nields my drug of choice. I just can't help myself. Stop me before I *nook* again! ;-) << who is suspicious (and maybe a little contemptuous) of all happy people - though i find them oddly fascinating. i know, i'm such a bitter, pathetic bastard. :) >> Nah, just jealous, even if we durrent admit it even to ourselves. We'd be tripping to be on Cloud Nine. It's so unattainable so much of the time, we get sour grapes. Bah Humbug says Scrooge! I tripped out on 4/22/95, my 6th Nields show, and I've been tripping ever since. What a long strange trip it's been. The Kennedys, from whence the expression "Yay for Yay" was mostly cultivated (after Rhiannon and Cadence got the snowball effect rolling), get a lot of jaded looks askance for their dogged determination to be positive and even childlike. It took even me a while to "get" the Kennedys. But I finally came around to the belief that TK are the genuine article, the Real McCoy, and not just fakin'. "Yay for Yay" is an attitude, and it takes commitment to be able to maintain *any* attitude in vigilance. Being Easy People is *not* as easy as falling off a log. It's hard work. There are bumps on the road that land you assbackwards and falling *off* the oxcart to the land of your dreams. You have to really *want* to jump onboard the Love Train when it pauses for a moment at the station. "I choose you" in the song "Easy People" means It's Up To You. OK, I'll shut up now. :-) ======== End of Forward from the Nields Nook ======== Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V4 #139 **********************************
