FWIW, I've been putting Kennedys reviews on the Nields Nook for a long time now, and I did the same with the Maggies prior to that. There is one Kennedys-related note at the very end which I forgot to mention on the Nook. Bruce ====================================================== What a dream weekend. Thompsons! Kennedys! Slambovians! Nields! It was like the Summer of Love meets Family Affair. Who was Jody and who was Buffy, I wonder. I know *I* was tripping. Chris & Meredith Thompson are singing sisters, as are Nerissa & Katryna Nields. Pete & Maura Kennedy are husband and wife. And Joziah and Sharkey lead up the Circus troupe who are just *like* family. Could the Summer of Love have been *this* much fun? :-) Acoustic Cafe, Bridgeport CT 11/1/02 Chris & Meredith Thompson Wood & Stone Neruda Children Clearwater First Step Katahdin And You Mrs. Robinson (encore) Thanks to Chris Thompson for help with the set list. I'm sorry that I have not been able to support Chris & Meredith like I'd like to. They recognize me from the last Titusville Nields show (299) where they were part of a rare 2 women's duo double bill, with Thompsons opening for Nields. I'm grateful that C&M opened for TK at Avon MA some months ago too. I don't get to see them nearly as much as I'd like to. Kennedys Life Is Large Didn't It Rain Get It Right w/ Meredith & Cadence Carroll Can't Kill Hope With a Gun Half of Us Angels Cry Wall of Death Ride Angel Ride River of Fallen Stars w/ Chris, Meredith, & Cadence Pick You Up Common Bond As I Went Out One Morning (Dylan) Tupelo Pilgrim (NEW) Raindrop (NEW) Jesse Why Winona Why w/ Cadence One Heart, One Soul Pearl's Eye View Happytown When I Go Tanglewood Tree -- C&M Thompson w/ TK Sirens w/ Chris, Meredith, & Cadence Life Is Large w/ Chris, Meredith, & Cadence 2 brand-new Kennedys songs! Written whilst vacationing in Canada. It was the first time I can remember Maura having to use lyric sheets for their own music, the songs were both *that* new even to them. Pete kindly let me study the lyrics of both of the new songs after the show. Both "Pilgrim" and "Raindrop" have the kind of exquisitely crafted poetical sense that I've come to expect from Kennedys song lyrics. Roaring Brook Nature Center, Canton CT 11/2/02 Joziah & Sharkey of Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams Baby Jane A Little Bit of Love Yodel Song Better Life Circus of Dreams Never Fit Joziah & Sharkey just wowed 'em at the Nature Center! Yay for Yay! I think Gandalf Murphy got a bigger round of applause than the headliners did, in this the first-ever Gandalf-Nields show. Tink and Tony were in the audience too, but did not play. I was so happy to see all of them, and that they got such a *rousing* response from the Nields crowd. Nerissa & Katryna Nields Ticket to My House Best Black Dress Ash Wednesday Haven't Got a Thing Haven't I Been Good Enemy Called Pants Just Like Christopher Columbus Tailspin Sarah With Your Ring (NEW) Christmas Carol Barbie Poem Jennifer Falling Down This Happens Again & Again (off mike) Caterpillar Song Snowman This Town Is Wrong Easy People (encore, off mike) Looks like the new Nields song wasn't one of the two they did the night before at the Tin Angel. I've been trying to keep track of the minutia of Nields song premieres since my religious conversion experience to the Nields (at another CT nature center) in 1995. New song premieres are always the most exciting shows for me to attend. I'm like the clown smiling on the outside, but sobbing on the inside, that I missed 2 song premieres at the Tin Angel Friday night. I used to try to make *every* Nields Tin Angel show, before I moved to Boston. I'm *still* sorry I missed "Mercy House" 12/17/98 at the Turning Point, and "Mr. Right Now" the next day at Godfrey Daniels. New Nields songs almost always come out in bunches, just like this, like a litter of puppies or kittens. What's a poor clown to do? May as well run away with the Circus of Dreams. This was a dream of a weekend for me --- a dream come true --- 4 duos to the power of infinity, a grand slam --- and with Cadence that made for a royal flush. With great music like Chris & Meredith Thompson, The Kennedys, Gandalf Murphy, The Nields, *and* the unbilled but much-appreciated Cadence Carroll - --- the dream lives on in all of our hearts. The Summer of Love is the neverending summer in our hearts, where dreams are as real as the love that you feel. It's *far* from over. The Dream has only begun. Bruce343 ==================================================== One last Kennedys-related note: Pete's guitar solo, supporting Chris & Meredith Thompson on "Tanglewood Tree," was *smoking* ! :-) It was a Dave Carter mini-festival, with the songs "Happytown," "When I Go," and "Tanglewood Tree" all in a row like that. So wonderful! :-) Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V4 #130 **********************************
