I knew there was an influence, of course, but still being a fairly new Jangle Poet, I've not grasped the full connection until now! On the other hand, I was privileged to see The Kennedys in their "full band" incarnation when they toured to support Evolver, and they were definitely "channeling" The Byrds and McGuinn with Rickenbackers blazing! Their second song that night was a great rendition of "Feel A Whole Lot Better". Unbelievable! And now I'm spreading nothing but good vibes of peace, love, and joy on this nice little quiet list. :-) I've heard TK do "Eight Miles High" a couple of times at shows. They've recorded a Byrds song, "Here Without You" on Evolver, that has a similar chord structure to "Eight Miles High." And "Same Old Way" on River of Fallen Stars was written as a Byrds type song. There must be tons of other Byrds references in Kennedys Music besides that I'm forgetting. TK's opening song at the Friday Night Elm City Song Circle on 9/14/01 in New Haven, 3 days after 9/11, was the Dylan song "Chimes of Freedom" which the Byrds also recorded. Everytime I play Roger McGuinn's song "Someone to Love" from his "Back From Rio" album, the guitar solo always makes me think of Pete. :-) BTW, that's one of my all-time favorite "car songs," or rather songs to play whilst driving, by any artist. I was telling Stephenspongebob just the other day that the Roger McGuinn song is called "Someone to Love," whereas the Jefferson Airplane hit was called "Somebody to Love." :-) Gee, I don't know *who* I love more, the Byrds or Jefferson Airplane. :-) I think a big reason I love TK, TN, GM&TSCOD, and why I loved the Maggies (RIP), is all 4 of them are so very 60's influenced. All 4 are heavily Beatles influenced and Who influenced. And Dylan and the Byrds influence certainly, WRT TK, TN, and TM. GM&TSCOD also has this Pink Floyd groove thing going for them. :-) When Dave Chalfant was still in TN, that would put TK, TN, and GM&TSCOD as Jimi Hendrix influenced too. The Kennedys just push a lot of the right "feel-good" buttons with me. Their music is so much fun, I always feel like I'm back in the 60's again. :-) Peace and love, Bruce Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V4 #127 **********************************
