I had a little problem with my computer recently, and unfortunately lost most of my archived material relating to Nields, Kennedys, and Gandalf shows from the period 7/02 thru 10/02, including the many reviews of Nields and Kennedys from FRFF '02. There's going to be a partly unfillable hole in Nields and Kennedys History for those months in my records as a result. Boo for boo, as Peter says. :-( Looking back in time in my computer to see what I still had, I found this review of Cadence & the Kennedys' 5/25/02 show at the Acoustic Cafe in Bridgeport. I'm not aware if this was ever forwarded onto the Jangle-Poets list before or not, since I didn't climb onboard this crazy Love Train until just after FRFF '02, in late July. If this Old News has been posted to the Jangle-Poets list before, my apologies, and just chalk it up to my ignorance. This old review reminded me that *another* really big shew by Cadence & the Kennedys is coming up this Friday the 18th, at the Towne Crier! Y4Y!!! As Arnold Schwartzenegger would say, "Ja, I'm pumped." :-) Bruce - --------------- Fwd --------------- Cadence & the Kennedys 5/25/02 at Acoustic Cafe, Bridgeport CT There were a number of surprises at this show! I wasn't expecting it to be a CD Release Party for TK's new album Get It Right, but they had a supply of the new disc at the show and so fans started lining up to buy them! Another surprise was the last-minute substitution of Cadence Carroll as the opening act in place of the Martin Family. It's always a treat to hear Cadence, and I *finally* got her new CD Evolve! A third surprise was a new Kennedys song, "Dance Around in the Rain." Pete asked the audience after playing it if P&M should play it more in the future and the crowd response was a resounding YES! A fourth surprise was the inclusion of The Nields' "Easy People" in the Kennedys' set. It always does my heart good to hear P&M play that song, for it reminds me of how much TN mean to me; it reminds me that it was through TN that I first discovered The Kennedys (on a twin bill at the Bottom Line 5/9/96 when TK played a rocking full band set in support of the album Life Is Large); because TK's version of "Easy People" is so incredibly sweet in its own way; and because that song sums up the Kennedys' own mystique so perfectly. If anyone is Easy People, it would have to be Cadence Carroll and the Kennedys. I got to sing Cadence's verse for the Life Is Large parody "Yay for Yay" to Cadence, before the show, when she was outside the club waiting for Billy to arrive, and I was out there looking to see if anyone I knew might magically appear! A sadder surprise was that not one JangleNooker that I knew was at the show, not even Kennedys diehards Cone or Sheila. You were definitely missed! Here is what the Kennedys played after Cadence's set: Ride Angel Ride Didn't It Rain Get It Right Angel & You Half of Us Nickel Town Pearl's Eye View Why Winona Why Common Bond Can't Kill Hope With a Gun Wall of Death Mr. Lucky Man Life Is Large Pick You Up River of Fallen Stars Angels Cry Just Like Henry David Run Red Lights Dance Around in the Rain Nashville Skyline Rag (Dylan) You Ain't Going Nowhere (Dylan) Orange Blossom Special Easy People Sirens Life Is Large I was so psyched to see Cadence & the Kennedys share the stage once again, since it is always such a delight to be present at the music, magic and mirth they make together. They just *love* playing with each other, and it is so obvious! Cadence not only opened, but she played with the Kennedys on numerous songs in their set as well. And I was psyched to be able to get my hands on both of their new CDs at last, both Cadence's Evolve and TK's Get It Right!
