Just before bedtime, I was remembering Pete's glowing description of the 
multifaceted nature of Dave Carter's life --- son of an evangelist, 
mathematician, jazz piano player, etc. --- and only later in life a 
travelling folk troubadour and sagelike mystical poet.

Dave Carter's life sounds like the stuff legends are made of.  Was this guy 
for real?  Someone close to the Carter homeland and close to Tracy should 
really write a book of his life.  It sounds like a wonderful story just 
waiting to be told, a story more wonderful in so many ways than most fiction.
