That version omitted the verse about Rhiannon, and substituted this one about Stephen and Peter instead --- "I knew two boys named Stephen and Peter They thought the Nields were neat and the Kennedys were even neater So they wrote these words for the Life Is Large hike Oh but they ain't nothing like you and me They ain't nothing like Pete Kennedy Yay for Yay! Cadence and the Kennedys Yay for Yay! Playing music for the rocks and trees We all sing and we all play guitar We all wannna be rock and roll stars Yay for Yay!" So the refrain is completely different too, not just the first verse. The reference to the "rocks and trees" in this alternate refrain was referring to the 2001 Memorial Day "Life Is Large" hike led by TK in West Virginia which we wanted to attend, but weren't able to. On the car ride home from the 2-day Bethlehem Musikfest last August, where Stephen, Peter, and I saw The Kennedys play two completely different shows on two different days, the three of us worked on the lyrics for "Yay for Yay," nearly all the way home to Connecticut from PA. This is what Pete Kennedy calls "the folk process." :-) So the following is the non-"rocks and trees" version, as well as being the Rhiannon-restored version of "Yay for Yay." :-) Y4Y!!! Bruce ================================ "YAY FOR YAY!" a parody of the Kennedys' "Life Is Large," by Bruce, Stephen, and Peter Palmatier I knew a woman, her name was Rhiannon She loved the Kennedys, just like Bern and like Shannon Then one day, Rhiannon just said YAY Well, Rhiannon's Yay always made our day That is why we just love to say Yay for Yay! Yay for the bunch of us Yay for Yay! All you need is just a little trust We all sing and we all play guitar We all wanna be rock and roll stars YAY for YAY! I knew a woman, named Cadence Carroll She had a heart full of soul as big as a great big barrel Then one day, she said YAY FOR YAY Oh, Yay for Yay, it really caught on That is why we're singing this song Yay for Yay! Yay for the bunch of us Yay for Yay! All you need is just a little trust We all sing and we all play guitar We all wanna be rock and roll stars YAY for YAY! I knew a woman, her name was Maura She went off to see the world just like Dora the Explorer Then one day, she met Pete Oh, their musical dreams were made complete Cause she had big smiles and he had big feet! Yay for Yay! Yay for the bunch of us Yay for Yay! All you need is just a little trust We all sing and we all play guitar We all wanna be rock and roll stars YAY FOR YAY!
