Since Musi-Cal gets a lot of hits, I can understand posting schedules there, but nothing is a substitute for having current tour information available on an artist's own site. I guess that it can be difficult to keep a site updated with constantly changing tour information, but I also know that I wouldn't want to be dependent on an organization like Musi-Cal for my livelihood. Isn't there some sort of free software out there that can be added to individual sites that would make posting tour information to individual sites as easy as posting to Musi-Cal? Then both the artist's site and Musi-Cal could be kept up to date and the artist would benefit from hits either at their own site or at Musi-Cal - without being dependent on Musi-Cal. If anyone knows of any software out there that could be used, please pass the information along. Maybe the managers of these sites won't be interested, but I just might find use for it one of these days. My dad and I saw the Kennedys last night at a church in Hingham which was built in 1681. The church was only a few minutes from our house, so my dad was psyched that he didn't have to drive too far, for once. We were both really blown away by how many old songs the Kennedys did. It was the first time that I had ever heard the Kennedys version of "Easy People." And the Kennedys did songs that neither one of us had ever heard them do live before. They did so many songs from Angel Fire, I said to my dad at one point, "What are they going to do next, "Hey Vin"?" (1st Set) River of Fallen Stars Didn't It Rain Stephen's Green Bells + Loaves + Letters CooCoo Feather in the Flame A Bend In The River Angels Cry Chelsea Embankment (2nd Set) Wall of Death Happytown A Letter to Emily Easy People Down, Down, Down Run the Red Horses Girl With the Flaxen Hair Nickeltown What a Wonderful World Spirit Compass Sirens Get It Right (Encore) Life Is Large It was a good crowd, and they gave the Kennedys a standing ovation. In their song intros, they were constantly talking about poets and authors, like Henry Miller, Gerard Manley Hopkins, John Malcolm Brennan, and Emily Dickinson. My dad says that the Kennedys come off sounding even more literary and artsy than the Nields do. They also said that they went to a peace march at the UN this week with Kurt Vonnegut. "Girl With the Flaxen Hair" was done as a guitar solo by Pete from an original piano piece by the classical composer Claude Debussy. My dad loved that one, because he knew it from Debussy records. "Angels Cry" is the Kennedys version of the Pavane by another French classical composer, Gabriel Faure. My dad helped me spell these French names. And Maura said "A Bend in the River" is partly inspired by film music from "The Mission" by Ennio Morricone. The Kennedys know a lot of music. Last night's show was so amazing. And my dad and Maura talked nonstop after the show about Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, until everyone else had left. The Kennedys called "Happytown" Dave's "Kennedys song," and my dad is glad that the Kennedys are helping spread the word wherever they go about Dave and Tracy's music. Pete said that the reason that they didn't play many songs from the new album, is because they just like to play music, and play pretty much whatever they want, and that is what they like about being musicians. My dad and I hadn't seen the Kennedys since Falcon Ridge, and we told them that we wish we could see the Kennedys more often. Since we've moved to Boston, my dad has not seen one show in New York City, and he said he might even have to miss the Kennedys with Gandalf Murphy at Makor on October 15. That is a show not to miss, but it is on a Tuesday, which is a weeknight. The Kennedys said that since they moved to New York, they will be playing in New England a lot more from now on. We can't wait to see the Kennedys again. Yay for the Kennedys, and Yay for Yay! I was at the show too and had a blast introducing a friend to the Kennedys for the first time. He bought a copy of "Get It Right" on my recommendation this summer and I insisted that he go to see the Kennedys in person. He enjoyed it and thought it was great and got himself a copy of "Life is Large" too. It was a real peace and love kind of evening. The Kennedys rule!
