[JP] KENNEDYS AUGUST NEWSLETTER 8 [Kennedylst@aol.com]
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: Thu, 1 Aug 2002 22:37:57 EDT
From: Kennedylst@aol.com
Subject: [JP] KENNEDYS AUGUST NEWSLETTER 8
Welcome to The Kennedys' E-Newsletter for August 2002!
Stevie Wonder called one of his albums "Hotter Than July", but we certainly
haven't experienced anything hotter than July 2002. The extreme heat did
nothing to prevent us from playing a string of really enjoyable and inspiring
gigs. The month began with a mini tour sharing the stage with our
compatriots, Eddie From Ohio. After trekking from the old whaling town of New
Bedford, MA (great festival there) out to the wilds of West Virginia and
western Maryland, we wound up the month by joining our extended tribe of fans
and friends at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. This gathering always has a
special vibe, but the feeling was enhanced even more this year as we all
celebrated the life and music of the late great Dave Carter, who unexpectedly
left behind his life as a wandering folk singer to carry on his spiritual
quest in the transcendent world that he so poetically glimpsed in his songs.
At Falcon Ridge, we had the chance to once again make music with Dave's
partner, Tracy Grammer, and we look forward to hearing much more from her in
the future. Her poise and dignity at the festival were really inspiring to us
all. If you haven't checked out their music, give a listen to any one of
their three CDs on the Signature Sounds label to see why we say that Dave was
simply the best songwriter on the entire folk scene.
