Hearing Pete talk about how special Falcon Ridge is to them, made me realize once again how much P&M had to "suck it up" to do the vintage clothing booth last year. They could so easily have been resentful and bitter about having been snubbed by FR, and just told FR to "shove it." But TK have way more class than that, and they found a way to keep the dream alive. That is what I call courage, raw determination, a creative imagination, and just plain having a good heart and good spirits. The hype about grooviness and positive attitude is not just a lot of bushwa, P&M are the real deal. As it turned out, the vintage clothing booth was very successful, TK played 2 sets of "guerilla folk" right there on the Midway --- possibly my personal highlight of FRFF '01 --- and now TK have made a triumphant return to the mainstage. I for one was thrilled to have them back. The Kennedys kick ass about as well as anyone can in the folk world, and what better place to strut their stuff and "Live Life Large" than on the mainstage at Falcon Ridge? :-) Kennedys FRFF '02 Friday night 7:30 set: Life Is Large Didn't It Rain River of Fallen Stars Angel and You Common Bond Pearl's Eye View Why Winona Why? Get It Right Sirens (w/ Chris and Meredith Thompson) Life Is Large (w/ Chris & Meredith Thompson, Nerissa & Katryna Nields, Cadence Carroll, We're About 9, and Joziah & Sharkey of Gandalf Murphy) My son Peter and I saw TK at Avon MA on 5/11/02, where C&M Thompson opened for them. The Thompsons did "Sirens" and then "Life Is Large" with TK at that show too. So they were all set to do that again at FRFF '02. It was a really delightful set, like no other. Remembering how much fun Nerissa and Katryna had doing a similar children's set at the Columbia Folk Fest on 7/13/97, I'll bet N&K wish *they* could do a Family Stage set just like the Kennedys did. :-) Cadence & TK Family Stage set at FRFF '02, 12:30 Saturday: Life Is Large Shaking Hands Some Kids The Creature Was a Teacher Puff the Magic Dragon (Cadence solo) Evolve (Cadence solo) Half of Us Air Guitar Love Train Twist & Shout Life Is Large TK did "Air Guitar" at Wilton CT last summer, and they did the O'Jays "Love Train" both at the Bridgeport Zoofest show last summer and at their "guerilla folk" set in front of their booth on the midway at FRFF '01. The other children's songs I'd never head TK do before. Too bad the usual Kennedys archivists were absent from this ultra-historic, rare Cadence & TK show. Whenever TK have done "Love Train," Maura has led a "Love Train" conga line throughout the audience. All aboard for fun! It was so cute seeing so many of the little tykes joining into the "Love Train." :-) Pete wore a three-headed Three Stooges mask for the song "The Creature Was a Teacher." That song was also a scream-along, where the kids were supposed to scream at a certain point of the refrain. TK do "singalongs," "shrug-alongs" ("Why Winona Why"), "fist-in-the-air-alongs" ("Just Like Henry David"), and now "scream-alongs" too. :-) Imagine a whole *tent-load* of kids twisting and shouting, while Cadence & TK sang "Twist & Shout" ! :-) And anyone who missed the serendipity of Cadence singing "Puff the Magic Dragon," really shouldn't have!
