Dave was a gentle soul who had a great gift of glimpsing the divine. Lucky for us, he chose to capture those moments in his songs, and hold them out for the rest of us to see and marvel at. We believe, in retrospect, that Dave was ready to go from this life to the next at any moment, and that's why he was so peaceful, tolerant, and bemused - -- you can hear it in his songs, you could sense it in his presence. If you think about his journey, you can't help but feel joy for him. We believe, knowing how deep our own soul connection is, that Tracy and Dave will always share a single soul, and that Dave will be her guiding angel. We feel that, in a way, Dave has opened a door for us. He came back long enough to express the wonder at what he had seen in the journey from this world to the next. What a great gift! What tremendous effort it must have been for him! What a wonderful thing for Tracy to have shared! We will always have his music. The first time we heard "When I Go," we knew that Dave had a special gift, and that we were privileged to have access to the fruits of his muse. Combining spiritual symbols with everyday language, in a way that puts the human experience in perspective with the divine, was his real art: "He says the primal quest ain't nothing but a second guess sometimes you just do your best and compromise" We've spent the last few days reading Alan Watts, Zen wisdom, accounts of near-death experiences and the like. We've listened to Dave and Tracy's albums and a few board tapes of some live shows we've played together. Pete's been strong for me when I've been weak, and, I'd like to think, vice versa. This week, we'll all gather at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Tracy Grammer will be there too. It will be a time to grieve, support, sing, remember, and above all, treasure a gentle soul that was generous enough to touch our lives potently, however briefly. We welcome anyone who wants to talk or sing or just be. We need this as much as you. Above all, we need to remember this weekend to celebrate Dave Carter, riding that winged palomino, burning circles 'round the sun! Journey in peace, Dave. There will also be a beautiful shrine, so I hope that everyone attending FR will plan to visit the booth at some point over the weekend. Peace, Sheila Never will I seek or receive private, individual salvation. Never will I enter into final peace alone, but forever and everywhere will I live and strive for the redemption of every creature throughout the world from the bonds of conditioned existence. ~ Kwan-Yin Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 19:01:34 EDT From: Bn2Synthsz@aol.com Subject: Re: [JP] Dave Carter In a message dated 7/23/2002 5:01:08 PM Eastern Standard Time, Pmkennedy@aol.com writes: > Dave Carter was such an eloquent person, that putting our own feelings about > > his passing into words seems profoundly inadequate Thanks so much, Pete and Maura, for your message about Dave's passing. Your heartfelt words resonated with me and I'm sure all the music fans on this list felt the same way. I wish I could join you all at Falcon Ridge this weekend but my kids are in a Shakespeare production. I must do my motherly duties. I'll send peaceful vibes to NY state...
