The Kennedys played 2 long sets at Jammin' Java, a very cool coffeehouse in Vienna, VA. The first set was a great advertisement for their new CD as all songs but the opener were from "Get It Right." Pete and Maura came out amidst balloons, each sporting a "Free Winona" t-shirt and bringing a huge stuffed gorilla who Pete introduced as Mike Clem. :-) Here's the setlist with a couple comments Life Is Large Ride, Angel, Ride Didn't It Rain (very prophetic since I drove the 100 miles back to Richmond through a torrential downpour) Get It Right (mixed with "What's Going On") Angel & You Half of Us (my favorite song on the new CD) Nickeltown Pearl's Eye View Why, Winona, Why? 2ND SET Pick You Up Can't Kill Hope With A Gun Jesse Chelsea Embankment Wall of Death River of Fallen Stars Run Red Lights Red House (I think that's the title, someone in the back yelled it out; all instrumental with a great solo from Pete) Sirens Life Is Large ENCORE I Saw Her Standing There Falcon Ridge here I come... don Now the boulevard is never gonna be the same Are they gonna take your footprints off the walk of fame Oh, it's so humiliating Why, Winona, why? -- "Why, Winona, Why?" I had to really concentrate driving home because of the rain and trucks. Regan is a local singer/songwriter and I'm a huge fan (duh!). She has a new CD coming out July 2nd and will hopefully be playing up there. She used to play Tombs in Georgetown as well as Zig's in Alexandria. She doesn't have many dates posted right now and the closest is Andy's in Chestertown on August 16th. I'm planning on going to that show as I've never been to Andy's and The Kennedys make it sound like a lot of fun. don Now the boulevard is never gonna be the same Are they gonna take your footprints off the walk of fame Oh, it's so humiliating Why, Winona, why? -- "Why, Winona, Why?" We are preparing to release our second album in a year entitled "Addicted to Phonics." It picks up where our debut; "Devolver, A Nude Kind of Music from The Firemans UK" left off. More demented punk/funk skewerings of anything and everything, as well as dreamy ruminations on nieces and 70's police shows. In honor of this occasion we have posted MP3s from "Devolver" on Amazon.com. They are strictly parodies of Kennedys songs or are based on our adventures with Pete and Maura and are done in the SPIRIT OF FUN!! As anyone who has tried to download things off of Amazon knows, it takes patience and sometimes things that are supposed to be there are not. As of now our versions of; Ride Angel Ride, Free and Mr. Lucky Mans are up. More should be following soon, as well as songs off of "Addicted to Phonics." We hope you enjoy them as much as we did making them! In entirely unrelated news, Steve and Nuit Hansgen are remodeling Loud House in preparation of the birth of their first son, James Nicholas (Jack) Xandofar Alpert Hansgen, who is due to hit this messed up earth on September 3rd. He'll probably show up on the 11th, just to piss off his Commie parents, both of whom think September 11th is a lie of enormous proportions. Big scary terrorist boogie men indeed! Where's the proof? Oh right...there isn't any!
