It's always a treat 4 me 2 catch a Kennedys show @ Andy's in Chestertown, Md. Andy's is a very comfortable music room full of high backed chairs, couches, divans, & coffee tables. The artists set up in a corner of the room opposite the fireplace & every seat is a good seat. This is the place 2 catch a favorite act in a very intimate setting. The food is fine, there's a bar in the front 4 those so inclined, & when the music starts they close the door separating the music room from the noise in the bar. This show proved 2 B a very special per4mance 4 a couple of reasons, the obvious it being Bob Dylan's birthday & earlier in the day TKs composing a new song called Dance Around In The Rain @ Andy Goddard's house, which they played not once, but twice durring the course of the evening. The 1st version was per4med W/O the bridge & the latter take done W/ the bridge. These were the 1st 2 public per4mances of Dance Around In The Rain, which is about NYC in the rain. This song is sure 2 become a standard in TKs rotation, as it is a typically well crafted 'keeper'. The 1st set consisted almost Xclusively of tunes from the soon 2 B released GET IT RIGHT, 2 which I might add Get It Right NOW!!! Both Ks were wearing black t-shirts that read FREE WYNONA, a movement that is totally over the top even 4 this Chrystic Anarchist. Pete announced that he thinks celebrities should B allowed 2 shoplift, which kind of puts this Free Wynona movement in2 context. Of course Why Wynona Why, in real time, is the theme of the movement & available on GET IT RIGHT. TKs also announced that they have a book W/ software coming out on 3JUN02 titled How To Make Your Own Music Video With Adobe Premier. This new Ks project should B available thru Borders, etc, & is a must read 4 any1 interested in music video production. The Memorial Day clouds had moved in on the drive down & durring the 1st set the rain started & added a nice touch 2 Didn't It Rain & Dancing In The Rain. Andy's had a good sized college crowd in the bar since this was the eve of graduation @ Washington College just up the street. Lots of drunk college girls in the bar but few of them enlightned enough 2 venture back in2 the music room. It seems the college age folks place a higher priority on getting shitfaced, although there were a few who discovered the magic of TKs. The 1st set ended W/ the only song that was not new, my request Waterbed. The 2nd set included many older standards like Jesse, the Stone's Wild Horses & a few Dylan classics like Ballad Of EZ Rider & Tom Paine (?). Pete went off on a n Xtended version of Watchtower. All of Pete's leads were played in a very unconventional way, even on songs like Rappahannock which is usually written in stone. He was really smokin' the modes! They even played a rare per4mance of Red Horses. They covered Dylan's instrumental Nashville Skyline Rag! The great thing about a Kennedys show @ Andy's is that they almost always play a 3rd set which gives them a chance 2 stretch out & take chances. They honored my request 4 Out Where The Wild Rivers Run & Pete launched in2 the 1st ever Wynona Ryder Going To Miss U When You're Gone (I Know U Rider) which ended the evening & brought down the house. As U can C Andy's has a very creative effect on the dynamic duo. The door 2 the men's room had a sign on it that said 'please use ladies room'. Pete commented, 'Dylan is in the men's room. That's why U can't go in there...' Mike Greenberg was there but there was no qourum of any kind, which is evidence the eastern shore is still out of the cyber loop. MayB that's why The Avalon Theatre has never presented TNs. They just don't know about them. Memorial Day weekend is the anniversery of the 1774 Chestertown Tea Party & the whole town was all decked out 4 the next day's festivities. It truly was 'patriotism run amok', 2 qoute Dan Rather. Is any1 besides me getting sick of red, white, & blue? I was sick of it B4 911 & now there is no end in sight. Everywhere I go it looks like pre WWII Germany W/ blue replacing the black. It doesn't make me feel any better. WE ARE THE COPS OF THE WORLD! Nobody's making U read it & nobody's making me change it. I prefer 2 refer 2 it as personal encryptment. Style is your term. I bet e e cummings had 2 hear a lot of grief from his peers. I guess he showed them. Usually it's AOL lackies that complain, but I'll take this as a compliment. Encryptment serves 2 weed out the conventionalists & their unjustified literary elitism. There's really no need 2 play X the rules. That's just conditioning... EZ Pavlov... Down boy... Anyone who's been to Andy's in Chestertown: how serious do ye think that they are about their 21+ policy? I've automatically avoided the 21+ places ever since being bitched out by the Ram's Head folks, but lots of places don't really care much in reality. And it's another MD place that the Kennedys play at a good deal. It sucks to get there, though, and not be let in. So, anyone have any idea? ~Rebecca Always frustrated by 21+ venues, especially ones that steal all the good MD acts ::coughcoughRamsHeadcoughcough:: _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. If U were accompanied X a parent & got there B4 they started watching the door (1 hr B 4 showtime) I think U may slip thru the cracks although the letter of the law states no minors. So don't volunteer any in4mation. If U were having dinner W/ your Dad I don't think any1 would say anything if U didn't try 2 order booze. Policy is determined on a county 2 county basis in MD. I think they may B more lax after schools out & the students have left town, but college towns get watched pretty close X the ABC.
