Thanks for the vibe-age! Five days after our van broke down, we finally made it out of Kannapolis NC. Unfortunately, JiffyLube, who at first told us to save all our receipts, is now saying that they won't pay for the transmission that they fried. So that's a fresh $2800 on our credit card! Dang! Just when you thought you were getting out of debt. We need to start using Conehead as our financial advisor! Anyway, we made it to Jacksonville FL for 4 solid days of the National Folk Alliance conference. It will be in Nashville next february, and they've opened all showcases up to the public, so if you want to experience a 24-hr a day, Thursday-through-Sunday dose of the best folk music in the world (musicians come from all around the globe), you might want to set aside some time in mid-february for this. Highlights for us in Jacksonville included sets by Da Vinci's Notebook, Groovelily, Ray Wiley Hubbard, Box Set (!)...too many to mention. We went to see Jules Graves, but she didn't go on when the flyer said she would, so our ships passed in the night, unfortunately! Made our rounds in the wee hours and sat in with a bunch of friends. Best news of the weekend for us was our official invitation to play at Falcon Ridge 2002! On to the wilds of east texas. March 15th change. I got a call from Leandra, of Neal & Leandra today. They are canceling their tour due to a family emergency. They have no other plans at this time, but to stay home with the family. Neal & Leandra were splitting the bill with We're About 9, Friday, March 15th at The Cellar Stage. We're About 9 will still be performing. I will be looking for another act to split the bill with them. Anyone who has purchased tickets to see Neal & Leandra will get their money back if requested. To: IndyFolky@aol.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mailer: AOL 5.0 for Windows sub 138 Hello hello hello! and welcome to the first issue of "Marching with Cadence", a newsletter that will hopefully go from my little computer to yours about once a month. It is significant not only because it's the first issue, but also because it announces the date for my CD Release Party! It has been a wonderful year. At about this time last year, I found out I would be going down to Reston, Virginia to record with Pete and Maura Kennedy. There followed planning, preparation, pracitcing, and a very successful fund raising concert (thanks to you all). I then went down South and spent a wonderful week and a half making and recording music and hanging out in that beautiful little town. Since then there's been picture taking, graphic designing and more. Finally it is ready to be born into the world. Yay! I know what you are thinking and I agree...it's about time! So, while I'm sure I will mention it again later, just for the record and to mark your calendars, the CD release party will be on Saturday, April 13, 2002....and so here we go! Included in Volume #1 of "Marching with Cadence": 1. CD Release info! 2. Upcoming Gigs 3. "Don't quit your day job" 4. The great mailing list sorting process 5. So you wanna drum? 6. Westport, CT 12-2:00PM for info call 203-227-8409 Saturday, April 13th.....I think I've talked about this day enough for one newsletter! 3. "Don't Quit Your Day Job" I work in a tiny little music store. You'd think there isn't much more to say, but I hope over the months to share with you the wonderful little quirks of the place that pays the rent. It is a beautiful thing to be surrounded by music, work with people who love music and to have my whole purpose when I am there to be the one who brings music to people...However, musicians are musicians, life is life and we all have our little idiosyncrasies. It can get very interesting I assure you.... 4. The Great Mailing List Sorting Process My mailing list is growing! And, it's now mostly e-mail. I worry that many of you who live far far away from my home area are getting lots of emails from me for gigs I play hours away from your home. If you would like me to put you in a more accurate grouping, please reply here and let me know. If you like receiving all my emails that's cool too. This doesn't include this newsletter - that will go out to everyone... Thanks for your support! 5. So you wanna Drum??? I get emails from people all the time looking for drumming! That's a very cool thing. "Everyone should have a drum" - Cadence Carroll.....OK, quoting myself is weird! People often ask if I teach, and where they can get a good drum and I am more than happy to be a resource. I would love to facilitate a group lesson if you have people who are interested and want to get a group together for the afternoon - or, if you would like a private lesson, please reply here and let me know. I am a big advocate of a little store in Ithaca, NY for buying yourself a drum - trust me it's worth the trip. I also receive info on drumming happenings in the area which I will mail out with each issue of "marching with cadence"....here's one I just received. ***********Dancing and Drumming- Who could ask for anything more? A two-hour celebration of what's good in the world! Participatory dance led by DansKinetics teacher Candice Cameron. Group drumming facilitated by percussionist Peter Hawes. Live dance music provided by Peter Hawes, Randy Brody & Friends. 7:00 PM Wednesday, March 20 Stony Creek Puppet House 128 Thimble Island Road, Branford CT Tickets: $20 in advance, $25 at the door For reservations and information contact the Shoreline Foundation (203) 458-6612************ Happy drumming everyone and let me know how I can help.... 6. Pre-Purchase your CD - Save money and help out Cadence -and be the first person on your block to own one! You still have time to pre-purchase your CD. If you buy it now, it's only $10 (as opposed to $15 when it is released) AND you have the satisfaction of knowing you helped me out. When it is released, it won't be paid for yet and every little bit helps...I also will be mailing them out as soon as I receive them which SHOULD be about 3 weeks before the CD release party! So you'll get them first! To Pre-Purchase Send Check made out to yours truly for $10 (include your return address info) to: Cadence Carroll 33 East Ave New Canaan, CT 06840 That's it! Thanks for reading, thanks for listening, and thanks for supporting independent acoustic music! I hope to see you soon!
