Lots of friends came out, including Rhiannon, Charlotte, the Riess family (an 8 hour drive from PA!), and some old day-job era friends and a couple cousins of Maura's. It was more like a Kennedy party than a show, cause we had so many of our friends there to socialize with. Left Cary today around noon today. That's where the trouble began. Just before hitting the highway, in a noble attempt at preventative maintenance, we stopped at JiffyLube for an oil change and a transmission service. Around 5:30 pm we pulled into a giant Flea Market parking lot. We parked in front of Salvation Army (both a flea mkt and salvation army at the same exit -- Kennedy heaven!!). Bought some stuff at Salvation army and were going to drive across the lot to the Flea Market (we're not lazy -- it's a BIG lot!). Got in the car, but it wouldn't go into gear. The transmission was fried. It seems that the "mechanic" at JiffyLube did something drastically wrong. We popped the hood and there was pink transmission fluid all over everything, but there was none registering on the dipstick. Called AAA and the tow truck arrived shortly thereafter, but the driver told us that because it's a Saturday evening, all garages were closed and wouldn't be open 'til monday. Luckily, there was a hotel within walking distance, so we brought our guitars on up and here we are -- stuck until monday at least in a hotel on exit 58 off of rte 85 in southwest North Carolina. We were heading to Athens GA tonight to crash with my sister for a few days before going on to the Folk Alliance conference in Jacksonville FL. We may end up having to rent a car for the rest of this tour. We'll know more on monday. Hey, all you Janglers -- keep your fingers crossed for us, and send Buddha vibes our way! we need em. But, hey, it could be worse...we could be snorting Tide and drinking Aqua Velva. Peace, love, and a healthy transmission, Pete & Maura Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V4 #31 *********************************
