They are scheduled to play during the weekend, Jan. 18-19, at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Va. Tickets are still available, as are discounts on rooms at the Crystal City Holiday Inn, which is very convenient to the Birchmere. Plus, the weekend is a tribute to Harry Chapin who died 20 years ago last July. Free workshops featuring members of the Chapin family are scheduled at the hotel Saturday. Plus, on the card are the incredible Paperboys, Berkley Hart, Schooner Fare, Tom Chapin, Steve Chapin, Jen Chapin, Joe D'Urso, Bryan Bowers and many others. For info, check out www.wfma.net Let me know if I can help any of you in your efforts to attend this outstanding weekend of folk music. - --------------------- Kate Wolf was never a pop star and never had a hit record. But in the years following her death from leukemia in 1986, her music has spread, mostly by word of mouth. As many of her fans have known since they first heard her voice, her heartfelt, seemingly simple songs have the power to change lives. She sang of the awareness of being, one reviewer claimed. The Kate Wolf Memorial Award has been awarded annually since 1988 to the performer who best epitomizes the music and spirit of the late California singer-songwriter. Because Kate and her music made a significant difference in peoples lives and because of her influence on other performers, the World Folk Music Association is proud to make certain her presence will always be with us. Previous recipients are Utah Phillips (1988), Christine Lavin (1989), Rosalie Sorrels (1990), Robin Batteau (1991), Hugh Wavy Gravy Romney (1992), Peter Yarrow (1993), Crow Johnson (1994), Nanci Griffith (1995), Jack Hardy (1996), Tom Chapin (1997), David Buskin (1998), Nina Gerber (1999) and Noel Paul Stookey (2000). CD now available and other P&M happenings! I just wanted to let everyone know that Pete and Tom Principato's 1978 live album, "Fingers on Fire" has been released, and you can now get it from Pete and Maura's website (http://www.kennedysmusic.com/order.html). To quote what Maura's put on the website: "(Powerhouse 2002) New!! Finally, after much anticipation, "Fingers On Fire" is released! This is a live CD from 1978, featuring Pete Kennedy and Tom Principato doing all instrumental swing guitar music. This recording, which was their opening set at a Danny Gatton show, has been "in the can" for 24 years! Be the first on your block to pick it up! $15." It's well worth going to the page just to see the 1978, Doug-Henning-look-alike photo of Pete! What I wouldn't give for a poster of that!! :) Their fax number (for ordering) has also changed, to a number that they can access while on the road, which makes for more expedient order handling. Also, http://www.folkscene.com has the Kennedys featured in their Story Lounge (http://www.folkscene.com/pages/storylounge_kennedys.html), accompanied by an archived (3/7/1999) program that they did for FolkScene. I'm not sure how long it is (I'm currently about seven minutes into it, and am enjoying it greatly). Check it out and have a listen!! Hey U, JangleNookers!!! There will B a JangleNook Quorum after the shows in the northern VA. suburbs @ the HERNDON Amphora Diner... That's the Amphora Diner (the Herndon one -- NOT the Vienna one, with their clientelle of high-strung yuppies. They make me NERVOUS) after the show. Try 2 finally get it right... Herndon Amphora GOOD, Vienna Amphora BAD. The 1st Order of JangleNook buisness will B floorspace availability where we can discuss & compare the more subtle pros & cons of having 2 separate shows so close 2gether until the wee hours of the AM & possibly serenade the rising sun. With a little effort we should B able 2 make this a very magical evening. Pass the word. The Herndon Amphora is my VERY favorite diner EVER. My song-writing seminar roomie (from the JP list) and I went there one night after our class ended (because we wanted to be in THE diner where Pete and Maura sometimes write, for inspiration). Great food (and LOTS of it), and a very patient staff who let us hang out for hours, coming by only to refill our coffee!! I am very, very jealous. It's been SO long since my last road trip, but the car doesn't go backwards anymore, and is starting to rethink going forward...everyone have FUN -- at the shows and the HERNDON Amphora. My 'new' car is begining 2 re-think starting. I guess I'll have 2 park on a hill this weekend. No time 2 fix it until next week...
