Let me frame this show for you by pointing out that I went home on Thursday to eat turkey with the family, left at 7 AM and got back to Philly at 1 AM (gotta love travelling on T-day), worked Friday, skipped the jane siberry show (too much $) to see Harry Potter, which totally RULED, btw, worked Saturday, and left Philly at 5 pm to see TK in NYC. This was the first time since the Eleventh that I made a trip to NYC w/out stopping at Ground Zero (I said a prayer there on T-day). I got out at Penn Station, walked 10 blocks to the Cutting Room, and arrived early, not usual for me, really. I hobnobbed with the barkeep, who served me a HUGE glass of Shiraz, which buzzed me rightly and reminded me of DJP. The Cutting Room is a pretty cool venue, small, intimate, fabulous service, great wine. I met a man named Gordon Nash, who works at NYIT and is a huge fan of the Kennedys. Really nice guy. You'll see him at Friday's TK Piermont show, if you go. W/out further ado: Wall Of Death Pick You Up River Of Falling Stars Can't Kill Hope With A Gun during which M.broke a string and P. broke into a medley while she recovered and then they finished the song - very cool Fortuneteller Road, during which I stepped out to smoke and ran into the just-arriving Bruce! Bruce is moving 2 hrs north, closer to NoHo but far from NYC, and he wanted to catch a Kennedys show in NYC, while it was still easy. Yay for Bruce! His hair was perfect. Pearl's Eye View, still my favorite Kennedys song Didn't It Rain Get It Right Heart Of Darkness, a request from me, after the show M.said they never play this song and I pointed out that I heard it at Andy's and M. said, "Yeah, but Andy's is different." Sirens No encore, unfortunately, and no Life Is Large! Imagine that! Maura was wearing her fabulous new birthday shirt from her brother (she has a lot of siblings! I thought my family was big) and very cool pants, which I was jealous of. Pete was wearing this very cool sleeveless shirt with rose patterns at the shoulders. They are so cute. :-) I would have liked to stay for the 2nd act, in case TK were invited on stage, but the 2 glasses of Shiraz really zonked me out. Thanks to Bruce for the ride home. A brilliant show, experienced in excellent company, definitely worth the trip. P+M confirmed that they're seriously thinking of moving to NYC if they can find the right place, maybe in Brooklyn. YAY for TK in NYC! But I'm not done reviewing yet, b/c the next morning, after breaking fast with my Mom and my sister Bridget, all my friends (I had plans with 3 of them) blew me off and I was SO happy! Why? B/c that meant I had the whole day to myself in NYC, my favorite city, and what a beautiful day it was. 67 degrees, and I walked for 5 and a half hours. I started in Central Park, walked past the Reservoir, where I thought of Dustin Hoffman, down past the Great Lawn, stopped at Delacourt Theater and Belvedere Castle, where I was ambushed by men in ninja outfits at 15 years of age, a must-go, where I discovered that you can go on a free walking tour of Central Park! How about that! Visit the Uniform Resource Locater at www.centralparrknyc.org. Wandered through the Shakespeare Garden and ambled through the Ramble, waved at Alice, rented a rowboat for 10 bucks and sallied out on the Great Lake, where I sang 10KM's City Of Angels at the top of my lungs, not rude, b/c I smoke (not much lung here), sauntered through the Pineturn, along the Bridle Path, past the Bandshell, lingered in the Wisteria Pergola, and ended up in the Sheep Meadow (yes, Elizabeth, they used to have a flock of sheep here, but they moved 'em to Prospect Park), where I spent many (I mean MANY) a skipped class in h.s, doing illegal things, mostly for free, rolled in the grass, read the sign disbelievingly, how could Frederick Law Olmstead think that this lovely patch of green should only be observed and enjoyed from a distance? Clearly, he didn't understand hacky-sack. Turned around and headed North, still in the Park, exited at 81st ST. and went into the always awesome Museum Of Natural History, ensconced myself in the Hayden Planetarium, where I decided to do ALL my christmas shopping in the verycool Space store, and where I spent many a teenage angst-ridden nght watching the laser light shows, headed West on 81st, went into a great Tibetan Crafts shop, where I bought a bracelet from a Tibetan woman who knows the Dalai Lama, hit Broadway and walked clear down to Penn Station, pausing to marvel at Times Square looking more and more like Shinjuku every day (but no-one does neon like the Japanese), listened to the drummers and dancers for a bit, ate a slice of delicious NYC mushroom pizza, lingered at Macy's @ Herald Square, where they have a fabulous Miracle on 34th St. display replete with moving figures and audio, pretended to want Rangers tickets to see how much they cost from scalpers (a lot), and found a winning $5 lottery ticket in my wallet which enabled me to have a Samuel Adams in Kabooz's, down in the station, where I unfortunately fell in love with the barmaid. There was this brilliant documentary on PBS last week about the history of NYC in 7 parts, produced by Rick Burns, Ken's brother. My NYC friends, yes, I spoke to them before they decided they were too busy to see me, had all watched it and it turns out that I am not the only one who is now determined to learn as much as possible about this great city I grew up in and always took for granted. Until now. Reiteration of a standing invite, for any Nookers or Janglers who want to explore NYC (especially rhiannon, 'cause I owe her one): drop me a line and bring your walking shoes! crash space is a given. I am always up for a trip to the big apple, especially Central Park, which I LOVE. 283 acres of fun, baby! OK, sgning off now. I hope everyone has a wonderful day. The weather on the East Coast is phenomenal! Yay for unseasonal weather! bern, obviously, way too much of a new yorker to shut up, evidenced by my horoscope yesterday, which suggested that someone might want to put a muzzle on me. as if! But it's not a real distinct connection where I can say "Oh! A bout is a (blank)!" And I can't find *anything* on ique. Or tique, for that matter. You'd think I could find *something* on the etymology of qualifiers or whatever those add-on-at-the-end-of-a-word things are. ARRRGGGHHH! So I guess I'll just have to go with my own definition of "of". This whole thing has me feeling more than a bit of pique. Ken Don't even get me started on behave. What the Hell is a have? And why am I supposed to be it?
