I saw the first showing in the Boston area (at midnight Thursday night/Friday morning) so that I could taunt The Nields' manager for a few hours (no midnight showings in Northampton, ha!). The casting was impeccable, the special effects were really cool, and they did a quite admirable job in cutting a several-hundred page book down to a bit over two and a half hours of film. They stayed totally faithful to the book, but a lot was understandably missing, and I was glad that I had read the book first, so that I could fill in the gaps. I thought it was a lot of fun, though I totally recommend reading the book before seeing the movie.
