How could I ever 4get being bushwacked X a psuedo Virginian? Yes, Don held the lyrics up 4 Maura 2 read as they debuted Pearl'sEyeView, which I really had high hopes 4... until I heard an air strike killed several U.N. workers who were 'only' clearing mines in Afganistan. I read where something like 2/5ths of all the deployed mines on the earth R in Afganistan... So now I guess US tax dollers will B used 2 deploy more. This is a deplorable paradox. The US has mandated the terrorists B brought 2 justice (just us), but 2 do so may require the use of land mines, a staple of the US military arsenal. So now 'our' mines can join the Soviet mines & have a big LAND MINE PARTY in Afganistan!!! In the face of all this rampant gung ho wink & a nod 2 the military all of a sudden banning land mines isn't cool anymore... The urgency has been successfully neutralized X the patriotic vigillante rush 2 judgement. The focus of the song has changed from the tragedy of the landmine 2 the 'glory' of combat photojournalism, a dubious juxtaposition @ best. Sadly, the whole affair has the potential 2 escalate in2 a bonafide religious crusade... Where, oh, where have all the flowers gone? Who's going 2 listen 2 Pearl'sEyeView now, in the face of the chimes of freedom flashing? In the face of My Country Tis Of Thee... This is the kind of stuff I fear. Sometimes I think I think 2 much... This land may B your land & my land, but where do U think all the land mines come from? 'This land mine is your land mine, this land mine is my land mine... This land mine was made 4 U & me.' Remember that when U're having your ticker tape parades down 5th Ave. Arlo has a great song about Afganistan called When A Soldier Makes It Home. It was written durring the Soviet occupation (because that's what it was/ is).
