Last night started out a little stiff W/ the Kennedys @ the Huntington Folksong Society on Long Island... I decided 2 cruise up 2 Loing Ireland 4 a Loing Ireland sangwich & another Kennedys show... & show they did. It was a fine contemporary modern christian church. These folks @ the folk society R very serious about there folk & openeded the show W/ an open mic where each per4mer played 1 song. All of the folks had something meaningful 2 share & a few provided truely inspired renderings. The lighting was so harsh I had 2 wear shades true the whole show. It was kind of bass ackwards. Pete & Maura hit the stage running W/ lifeIsLarge. Pete had a NYPD cap on W/ his red starry shirt. Maura had a dark velvet dress... The 1st set was plagued X some minor sound problems & soon the bugs were worked out. Just off the top of my head some highlights... Shearwater! MayB I'm not paying attention or something, but I think Maura played guitar thru most of the song, which I believe is a departure from previous versions. It was like the 2 'red guitars' werte talking 2 each other, right there in front of Dobbs & everybody... in the congregational church... I love Maura's new guitar. It really sounds great & I hope the feel is comforable 4 her... The 1st set ended W/ River Of Falling Stars... The 2nd set opened W/ Right As Rain. The Feather In The Flame was superb! The chapel had a really cavernous gregorian overtone. Last night when they played Sirens Pete's emprov had a distinctly middle eastern flavor. He segued in2 Shenandoah > America The Beatiful > Star Spangled Banner > big hollywood ending! It really moved me. Pete is the John Ford of guitar. It turned out 2 B a stunning per4mance! A 1st rate show. So back 2 the Loing Ireland sangwich... I had 2 go 4 the reuben. In honor of the sinking of the Reuben James, Woody Guthrie's other big hit record. Nobody plays The Sinking Of The Reuben James anymore. Well, the DelMarVa Folk Festival featuring the Kennedys next Saturday will close out this year's festival 4 me. It starts 2 get a little chilly 2 B camping out within my standard touring radius. I hope evry1 got 2 get out & C some fine, live music this summer. It's good 2 get the stink blowed off U... Bombs away... Let them eat pork! We have a problem W/ any kind of government that starts bombing B4 the football game. We don't want 2 C 'chicken head George', we want 2 C the game... What kind of place R they running here? Who's in charge here? Morpheus is found at http://www.musiccity.com/. I'm downloading software now, and hopefully will be able to have a listen! Thanks Mike, for sharing this with us!! I appreciated your tale of your first Kennedys' show. A friend and I were talking about our first Kennedys' experience last night....it turned out that it was the same show for both of us, though we didn't know one another at that point. Just the thought of that night brings a smile to my face....... Peace, Sheila ....this is my home, this is my only home this is the only sacred ground that I have ever known.... - - Dave Carter Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V3 #168 **********************************
