Thursday night is when my church choir rehearses... I'm part of our "contemporary ensemble"... it used to be called the "folk group"... but I think that got a bad connotation... too many tambourines or something. So they changed our name. But anyway... whatever we're called, we have piano, guitars, bass, and a whole host of percussion instruments along with voices. Well... I had looked ahead on the list of music coming up... and some of it was awfully "dirge-y"... and I was just not in a mood to start an evening off like that. So... I happened to arrive about 20 minutes early... sat down at the piano and started just playing around. In about 5 minutes, one of our guitarists arrived... I grabbed his guitar and said.. hey let me play a song for you... and I start right in on "Can't Kill Hope..." Well.. he liked it... picked up on the chord progression... and he played (he's a much more competent guitarist than I am)... and I sang... and it was fun. Well... our bassist showed up... and he said... whatcha doing? So we got him in on it... Then the vocalists started coming... and one by one... everyone caught on to the refrain... and there we were... the whole darned "contemporary" ensemble jamming to "Can't Kill Hope". I think it was QUITE the appropriate way to start off the evening's rehearsal. Anyway... I got a couple of "eyebrows" from a few of the more... ahem... traditional members of the group... but when we finished, rehearsal actually started, and I went to my seat, the woman next to me asked... who wrote that... is it a Beatles song?? And I just said no... it was J.S. Bach... (tee hee... :) -- sorry couldn't resist). In actuality, a couple of people want to borrow my copy of Evolver now... and I may loan out Positively Live with it... But anyway... Libby making mischief... and trying for Kennedys converts all the way.
