What We're Listening To ********************************************** 1. Thank You For Helping Us Help The Red Cross ********************************************** All receipts from sales of GrooveLily merchandise on September 20th (from our show at MAKOR in New York City as well as from our online store) went directly to the Red Cross, to assist the victims and their families. We raised $655, with the invaluable help of AMY BAXT, ALEX HEILNER and ROBIN SKYLER. Many thanks to everyone who participated. ********************************************* 2. Slyly Making Our Way Into Record Stores... ********************************************* Placement of our CDs into stores is a huge project, one that we haven't wanted to take on without a distribution deal. However, we could not turn down the kind offers we've received lately! As of this month, you can find our "Little Light" CDs in the following east coast stores. These are excellent independent record sellers who really care about music; if you can, shop there now. 1. Compact Disc World (NJ): Stores are located in Totowa, Paramus, Union, Parsippany, East Hanover, Menlo Park, Eatontown, East Brunswick, Lawrenceville and Cherry Hill. For exact locations and directions, please call (800) 407-4398 or visit www.compactdiscworld.com Special thanks to STEVE MAXWELL for setting us up at Compact Disc World. 2. Manifest Discs and Tapes (SC): Stores are located in Columbia and Charleston, and 5 other Carolina cities. We are currently in the Columbia and Charleston stores only. For exact locations and directions, please call (803) 798-2606 (Columbia) or (843) 571-4657 (Charleston), or visit www.manifestdisc.com Special thanks to DEAN ADAMS for setting us up at Manifest. 3. Petal Pushers Part II (Join The Quality Music Revolution) ************************************************************ We've had a terrific response from last month's newsletter to our call for Petal Pushers. Therefore, we do what every successful band must do: repeat ourselves. For those of you who have not yet emailed petalpushers@groovelily.com to sign up, now would be a great time to do so. Join us and be a part of something big! Starting soon. Details below. The Quality Music Revolution is the very best kind of revolution: joyful, painless and nonviolent. Want to be a part of it? Do you have what it takes? We're looking for some exceptional people to join us as we sow the seeds of GrooveLily throughout the land. These exceptional people are called Petal Pushers! Here's how it works: 1) You contact us at petalpushers@groovelily.com, with an email telling us in what cities you can spread the word. 2) When we confirm that we've got a show in your area, you'll get a special flyer to put up around the cool parts of town in conspicuous places. 3) At the show, you dispense wisdom at the merchandise stand, since you are uniquely qualified to tell new listeners about the Lily. 4) In the future, we may ask you to call local radio stations, check local record stores for GrooveLily items and engage in other revolutionary activities. In return, you will receive: 1) Two (2) free admissions and two (2) backstage passes to each GrooveLily show you promote. 2) Special rewards for promoting us, such as (not that we have this yet, but we're considering!!) a members-only-exclusive-can't-buy-anywhere GrooveLily Petal Pushers T-shirt, proclaiming to the world that you are a dedicated member of the Quality Music Revolution. 3) Access to a Petal-Pusher *exclusive* section of our website, where you'll find recordings of unreleased GrooveLily demos and live shows, as well as candid pictures and stories from the road that nobody else gets to see. 4) Bragging rights, due to the list of the top Petal Pushers which will be prominently displayed on the main page of www.groovelily.com. 5) The priceless satisfaction which comes only from the knowledge that you're making the world a better place. Join the revolution! Be a Petal Pusher! ***************************************** 4. GrooveLily Team Mid-Season Draft Picks ***************************************** Immediately after release of our last E-Newsletter (#8, September 2001), in which we announced with great pomp and anticipation the debut of our second publicist, T. Dean Adams, we were saddened to learn that she will not be working with us after all, due to unforeseen circumstances... We wish Dean all the best. Please continue to direct all publicity inquiries to our fantastic number-one publicist extraordinaire, KAREN GRECO of Greco/Van Slyke Entertainment. Her excellent new employee, JESSICA CARSO, will soon be handling our tour publicity, while Karen concentrates on New York and larger national publicity opportunities for GrooveLily. As we begin the Petal Pusher program, we will soon anoint yet another member of our Team: the fabulous CARMEL LURITO (whom some of you may recognize as GrooveLily Merchandise Goddess from recent DC-area gigs) will be heading up the Petal Pushers...right after her upcoming October wedding. Congratulations and welcome to Jessica and Carmel, newest members of the GrooveLily Team! **************************************************************** 5. Final Snail Mail Newsletter Coming In October. We Like Email. **************************************************************** If you've never received a snail-mail postcard or newsletter from us and you would like to, please send us your snail-mail address at us@groovelily.com -- or if you've recently (or not so recently) moved, please do the same. This upcoming October paper mailing to the entire GrooveLily mailing-list community (many thousands strong!) will be the last one, at least for the foreseeable future. We'd much prefer to put our resources into music than into postage and printing...and we're sure you'd prefer that as well. Please urge everyone you know who knows us to send us *EMAIL* addresses. We love keeping in touch with you. Special thanks to RAULT KEHLOR, super smart guy, who made us an ultra-cool script for Mailsmith (our email program which we highly recommend) so that we can reach you more efficiently! ********************************** 6. Recording Again: Hits Hits Hits ********************************** OK, it's official. We are heading back into the studio (producing ourselves this time, with the help of engineer ROB KILLENBERGER), recording several new songs in October. Based on feedback from every possible direction, as well as our own gut feelings on the matter, we've decided to go with a sound a bit closer to that of our live show: e.g. more violin! More keyboards! More Brendan singing! We are our quirky selves, despite the "rules" of pop radio such as consistency of style and singer. Breaking those rules is exhilarating and fun, and we can't really help it anyway. :) *********************************************************************** 7. 4-Day GrooveLily Cruise In The Bahamas Looking Likely: Come On Along *********************************************************************** We've had a great response to our initial inquiry about your interest in coming on a GrooveLily cruise! It is looking likely that this will actually happen...more info coming soon. To find out more, visit: http://www.groovelily.com/index2.html?cruise Alternatively, just send an email to cruise@groovelily.com telling us that you're interested. **************************************************************************** 8. The Email-List Referral Giveaway Program: Congratulations To Our Winners! **************************************************************************** Thanks so much to everyone who participated in this program! You took the time and effort to tell your friends and family about the Lily, and we appreciate it more than we can say. This is exactly what is required to spread the word, and we are very happy to say that it's working. Congratulations to our winners!! Here they are, in their list of glory. 1. NICHOLE HILBURN, Quakertown, PA (Overall Winner, with 20 Referrals!) 2. NICOLE PITTS, Atlanta, GA (12 Referrals) 3. BUD PIERCE, McKinney, TX (11 Referrals) 4. DAN ALPERT, Hollywood, FL (10 Referrals) 5. NICKI SUTHERLAND, Columbus, GA (10 Referrals) 6. CLAIRE DOPPMAN, North Merrick, NY (10 Referrals) ******************************************************** 9. After The Contest: Other Ways To Win GrooveLily Stuff ******************************************************** We have an ongoing offer of a free CD (or shirt or hat, whatever you prefer) for anyone who brings five (5) people to a GrooveLily show. Just bring your posse to the merchandise stand at any of our gigs, and the resident Petal Pusher will hook you up. As mentioned above, if you *become* a Petal Pusher you can win and have access to various GrooveLily insider paraphernalia. If you have a good suggestion for a contest or publicity idea for GrooveLily, please let us know. Our aim is to spread the word of Lily like a virus (a GOOD virus) throughout the land. Ideas welcomed! at us@groovelily.com ***************************** 10. What We're Listening To *************************** During this period of RV adjustment, we are still temporarily without a CD player, and we haven't been able to listen much to recordings. We have, however, heard some good music live, and can never turn away from a good book on tape: McGowan (Live) He opened for us on September 15 at the Point, and we are now fans. His beautiful Jeff Buckley-esque vocals are matched by groovy, rhythmic guitar playing as well as smart pop songwriting with clever lyrics (a real rarity!!). McGowan is based in the Philadelphia area, and can be reached at mcgowan6@hotmail.com Gravity by Tess Gerritsen Deep-sea diving AND scary viruses AND outer space! This is a relentless and gripping story which had us white-knuckling the steering wheel for hours.
