I have a little Kennedys-esque tale to share... Last weekend I went camping in the San Bernardino mountains east of where I live in California. My camping partner and I had had a wonderful day hiking the trails to the peak of one of the nearby mountains (9000') so we decided that rather than cook on the campfire we'd amble into town and have someone else do the hard work. So anyway, we were sitting in a lovely little restaurant tucking into a well-deserved turkey dinner having a natter and listening to a guy play some wonderful acoustic guitar in the background. So all of a sudden i hear a piece of music I recognise, it goes something like de de der der de der der de der der de dum... (I can hear it in my head anyways). "That's Pete Kennedy!" I exclaimed Lucy - camping / hiking partner - dismissed me out of hand for two reasons 1) she knew the tune too and 2) she's not listened to the Kennedys much (I'm weaning her off Robbie Williams and onto the Nields first, Kennedys next). I was convinced that I knew it and the fact that she was mumbling something about "hearing it in church" convinced me that she was spouting nonsense. Anyhow, she wrote the music down - she's clever like that - "it's transposed in C Major" she told me. Whatever... Undeterred when we got back on Sunday night I dug out my Kennedys CDs and started playing them one by one. Eventually we got to +vely Live and sure enough, track 6 is _Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring_, which, I'm told, Pete didn't write. I was right and she was (as ever) right. My Kennedys story...
