I haven't been to a kennedys show for two solid weeks and --- WAH! Finances are on hold until I move and I'm so sad without a Kennedys show to look forward to. Sheila, please re-send the schedule. I haven't seen one lately. And Cone, could you just stop teasing me with Starland Cafe comments, you big unthinking lug!. working six days a week is no fun and living in a cubicle is even less fun, so all you Jangleurs just go see them and report back fully and in great detail. I will be reading. And tell them I say "hi" The New Haven song circle (9/14) sounds awesome. Too bad I work that day, and the next day,.... Thanks to poisongold for filling me in on the early tunes I missed. Dave + Tracey + Pete + Maura was a really great combination, btw. Life Is Large Pick You Up Free Wall Of Death River of Falling Stars Jack Of Hearts dedicated to WFUV, a great station Down, Down, Down Pearl's Eye View Fortuneteller Road Orange Blossom Special Tribe, my request, even though some guy at the bar shouted, "NO!" in protest. Maura pointed out that it's a happy couple song and since this guy was sitting all alone, he was probably not in the spirit of the song. Sirens Life Is Large - reprise w/ 2 adorable little girls dancing on the stage and helping out with the chorus Encore #1 with Tracy + Dave: Crimson & Clover. Tracey + Dave played lead while Maura and Pete did backup vocals. The greatest part was on the "over and over" repeat section, Pete and Maura sang the lines with their right hands moving in the playing Indian fashion to create the choppy effect cri-i-imso-o-n-a-a-nd-clo-o-o-ve-er... I hope I explained that well, b/c it's a tricky visual. It definitely worked in the song. What a great rendition. That's one of my favorite things about TK, when they revisit an old song that I didn't know anyone still listened to but always loved, or a song I'd never heard but should have. I'd love to hear them perform this again, and I also think it should be recorded, along with the Get It Right/What's Going On? medley. But I'm sure the Kennedys will reach even greater heights of perfection before they record Get It Right Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, a hats-off to Mr. Dylan. I love Dylan, but I believe the legacy of Phil Ochs would benefit greatly from a trip down kennedys lane. To each his/her own, I know, just putting the idea out there for the fifth time. And with Apocalypse Redux out there, I can't think of a better time to tip a hat to the man who wrote the war in so many of his songs. Phil Ochs was anti-Viet Nam War before it was cool to be so, before most people even knew we had committed troops there. He also sang "Crucifixion" (about the assassination of JFK) to RFK the year that Robert was assassinated. By the time Phil was done playing, RFK had tears in his eyes. Did Bob Dylan ever make RFK cry with the beauteous poignancy of his song-writing? I don't think so. Last night I met a 74 year old man who spent 1958-1972 in the Saigon area, "working" he said, but not in the military. Civilian pacification, maybe? He wouldn't say. I asked if he'd been back to visit and told him it was one of the most beautiful places in the world. His response was, "I doubt that very much." Did Kissinger get a facelift? I was sure I'd recognize that nose anywhere. Anyway Encore #2: Run Red Lights, it's crazy but it's true. So there is my 3 week old review of the Kennedys pre-FRFF show. Can we get some setlists for Musicfest? And the song circle in New Haven with Jess Klein and...who is the other person? And what time is the song circle? Best wishes to all and sundry. bern, "I will look for you in Honolulu, in San Francisco, and Ashtabula..." But then he's got the royal wedding and the Queen's jubilee to look forward to. And the trial of Diana's butler. The grass is always greener somewhere else. It's just hard to be stuck on the concrete remembering the feel of that grass. Sorry to nell and others who I may have annoyed. Let's all commiserate.
