To mark the first anniversary of the jangle poets list, Dashboard Buddha composed the following ode: Ode to the Jangle Poets On a fayre summer's day When the foul, cold breath of winter Had long since faded away A wise and cunning New Englander, Turner, by name Picked up a fistfull of HTML. and Javascript, mighty above all others. Recalling a winters night, dark and drear in Boston towne, famed far and wee. Where the faithful did gather, stomping and shivering In the hall of Karma Near the park where the Red Sox play. From distant towns came they. From far Worcester, and Framingham And from the plains of Northampton. To marvel at such music merrye As sould only be played on harps unstrung By angels, both blonde and brunette. Nields by name, Katrina and Narissa Muses carried on melodious breezes From the far flung hills of Virginia With words craft'd well They sang of snowmen and superheroes And things beyond our ken And lo, in their midst, there appeared a third angel Red guitar aloft, she pop'd and snap'd the strings And sang in tones so sweet That even the audience, waiting for the main act Did listen in wonder Vex'd that such dulcet tones, and groovy threads Could've remained unkown in Boston 'Til now Thus did Turner reflect back And taking her Javascript in hand, mighty above all others Did she put mouse to pad And she hewed out a list And from far and wee they came From the clans of Dar and Shindell And from the hallowed halls of Nanci And yea, even from the far flung highlands where dwelt the fearsome Moxy, and EFO And the listers became great in number And they multiplied Cone the smiling Buddha And from Bethlehem, the wise and web-crafty Clan of Riess And even the lonely tarheel Pining in the misty mountains For her fallen hero, Groovy Long may these poets sing And long may they jangle Let their baby Taylors ring And may their words of wisdom Adorn the web with such jewels of lunacy As have not been seen since the legendary Days of yore Hail to thee, blythe poets Let your spirits soar and your words inspire And should you choose, in your valor, To hang flyers before a show Consider yourself on the guest list Dashboard Buddha, August 14, 2001 Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2001 11:19:17 EDT From: Fantine729@aol.com Subject: Re: [jangle-poets] Dashboard Buddha's ode. Just to expound and/or clarify........the Jangle Poets list's first post went out on August 3, 2000! Between FRFF and Newport, it's birthday got a bit lost in the shuffle this year. I thank everyone for being a part of this first year. This list is a pleasure to be a part of and to take care of, and is just one of the nicest lists I'm on. Happy birthday!! And for any newcomers out there who may be going "what's a Dashboard Buddha," an explanation can be found at: http://www.kennedysmusic.com/diary.html.
