This venue is definitely a must visit. Although the locals, I assume they're locals, didn't even bother to stop shouting at each other in the bar area during the THREE (Woo-Hoo!) sets, it gave the show a plebian feel that I found quite refreshing. Cone warned me TK would pull out all the stops, being at andy's, but I was floored (who listens to him anyway?). Here's the setlist, as near as I can approximate, even though I did a lot of research from TK and various audience members, I kept forgetting to keep record, entranced by what was happening. SET 1: 9:35 PM Orange Blossom Special W/OUT the words. Very interesting. I am the first to admit I do not know all the riff's' Pete pulls from his guitar a-la Proustian tea of Combrey during this song, I recognized therm but not the song itself. TK - more challenging listening cannot be found. House On Fire (YAY!) Common Bond Rappahannock, dedicated to Mike from DC who reminded me of Henry David Come In My Kitchen River of Falling Stars Never Learn (my request, which I later discovered was previously requested by the same DJP whose same seat I was sitting in. The song was dedicated to Conehead.) Free (I'm so glad to see this song take it's rightful place in the repertoire It's a great song and reminds me a lot of "Just Like Heaven" by the Cure, their biggest Casey Casum hit.) Jessie, sung very strongly by Maura, this song was dedicated to the radio station, WRNR, which is such a cool name for a station, btw Run Red Lights (It was fun to hear all these songs virtually sans intro. Many of these songs were played in a continuous medley: it was hard to keep track. I got the feeling TK were trying to squeeze as much music in there as possible. It was well received by all. Big River, which I was educated by P/K/&Cone is a Johnny Cash song that the "dead" used to play a lot. Cone said it was one of the Dead's "Cowboy Songs." Sirens, which was a request, actually there were fifteen requests that I counted: I didn't bother to write them down. Most were for Kennedy's songs. :-) They were limitless. SET 2: 10:40 PM Angel Fire Tribe (which Conehead had been singing all night) Pick You Up Red Horses For What It's Worth (steven stills) medley with Mr. Lucky Man, I think? hmmm.... lurkers? Or was MLM later. Distant Thunder, another request, which prompted comments about the relentless rain lately. :This is now the Kenndys' Anti-Rain Dance. Ain't Living Long Like This, a song by Rodney Crowell, spelling corrections requested, also covered by EmmyLou Harris, who I just saw in Battery Park on the 4th. Feelings (ahem, sorry, bad joke) A Lost Song which I recognized but don't know the name of...Sniffles. It was Pete being so deadpan when they announced "Feelings" that threw me off. All Along The Watchtower, with Pete totally rocking out Get It Right, a new song, also dedicated to Conehead, who spoke of his wish to re-incarnated as a clam. I see a pattern developing. What's Going On? smooth transition from Get It Right. It's fun to watch TK change their presentation of covers from show to show: this one is shaping up to be the next FWIW BUDDY HOLLY medley: someone in the crowd asked for buddy holly. Pete announced that they'd first do a tribute to Buddy that they wrote, from LIL, Right As Rain Rave On Me (unsure of title - buddy song) All My Love All My Kissin', obviously played before. Awesome rendition. NEW SONG from a compilation called Americana Motel, DC area artists, which comp. also includes such greats as Mike Aldridge and ...? Sounds awesome. The song title wasn't announced, Tell me How,I think. Feather In The Flame, the Ode to Icarus, really getting to love this song. If only other bands would revisit their B sides more often. Keep The Place Clean, another request from me who just acquired Evolver. Very awesome. Sunday (some of these Life Is Large tunes don't get much play, but this show showed up their playability. I hope to see more of them.) Not Fade Away fade into Mr. Lucky Man, I think? or was it earlier. Urgh. SET 3: 12:30 AM(last call in MD) I'm Not You, which I'm playing right now. Must have missed this on LIL the other 10 times. Nickel Town, a Conehead request Heart Of Darkness, great song. Coal Tattoo, a song by Jessie Ed Wheeler, very sad song about coal mining, of course, and life. Pearl's Eye View, with no intro, a great song that speaks for itself, ultimately Life Is Large, 1st TK show I've been to since Newmarket Cabaret when they didn't play it first. A very different Life Is Large, with some improv echoing at the end. Totally awesome, way past my bedtime. The show ended at 1:10 AM. It was great. Well worth the trip. Safe travels to all those going to the Ranch House tonight. The Kennedys rule! Oh, The Kennedys w/Nanci on 7/20, who's not tempted to go to that? See you all at Falcon Ridge.
