Hey Talia! Thanks for chiming in, I was hoping you would. Your piece that you mentioned, the portrait of Pete and Maura in pastel, is really beautiful. All Janglers should have a print of it. You should make some and bring them to FR. Really phenomenal piece. The Kennedys are lucky. We are lucky. RE the setlist, an imminent schoalr of soul music has corrected me on the authorship of "You're All I Need To Get By." It's by Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson. First Marvin Gaye goes back in my CD player, and now I have to go buy some Ashford & Simpson? If only I had watched Solid Gold less religiously in the 80's, I'd be in big trouble.. Also, I listed Sirens on the setlist, when it was really Down, Down, Down that was played. Great fun was had by all and The Point was pretty packed with happy folk. But that's old news. Cadence Carroll had a wonderful CD benefit party, where I expected to be bored! What WAS I thinking?! Every performer was worth listening to and I was really heartened to find so much talent in CT. Several of the performers really blew me away, especially Brenda Evans, Jesse Terry Christina Abbott, Kevin Briody, Brenda Evans, Dave Murphy, Terence Martin, Brenda Evans, Rick Gedney, Dan Bonis, Abbie Gardner, Ron Anthony, Michael Hsu. Ok, they were all amazing, especially Brenda Evans. I came *this* close to spending my return trip money on some of the artists' CDs, and even thought of going to Westport to return a book I'm reading on Africa at Borders for cash so I could get home. Jim Coffin dissuaded me, thankfully, though I have since learned there is a Borders in Fairfield. :-) Cadence played with many of the performers, sang Puff The Magic Dragon with all the children (I cried), emceed the entire show with great skill and humor (Conehead commented that she was "handling stardom well"). played two of her own fantastic sets assisted by Brenda, Rick, and others, She closed with her song "Evolve," which makes me so happy I finally got a copy of Evolver! This is her most "interactive" song, which has a four-part harmony which the audience is invited to join in on. At the end of the song, the singers went off mike and let the audience sing out the last of the harmony. It was hard to hear it building in parts while the drums were playing, but when Cady stopped and stepped back with Brenda, we all heard the harmony come together and close, "As we revolve we will evolve to a place of love..." It was really something else. Judging from the fact that the Acoustic Cafe was overflowing at several points and packed to the gills throughout, Cadence Carroll organized and enlisted a very solid show of support. It seemed like her entire family tree was present. She of course thanked Pete and Maura, who she said "inspired her to do this" and Sheila, who somehow managed to cover merchandise of several artists at once, field questions, dance and sing, and smile the entire time. I was pleased to make the acquaintance of yet another Jangleur, Melissa and her sister Kate, who put in an appearance to show support. See you guys at Falcon Ridge! I got home at 10 PM after taking 3 trains and walking a lot. All in all, a wonderful weekend that I was proud and happy to be a part of. bern, going to play Evolve and Evolver back to back now. Where have I > been? > Hey, Bern, my first show was the first show of the Evolver tour!! Not even 14 months ago. I've decided it's not where you've been, just as long as you've arrived! :-) I second Bern's enthusiastic review of Cadence's benefit. It was simply amazing to see so many people come together to support Cadence and make something wonderful happen for her. I thought it was most cool that we had all the area Janglers there as well, and really appreciated seeing my songwriting seminar roommate and fellow Amphora connoisseur, Melissa, whom I had not seen since February! The energy and generosity that flowed through that place were inspiring, uplifting and unrivaled, and the audience and the performers were all wonderful! The kids rocked!! As for Brenda Evans, I had discovered Brenda some time last fall I think. It was actually the first time I ever saw Cady, though we didn't meet until The Kennedys' show at the Acoustic Cafe. Brenda is amazing, and though she didn't play it during her set, she has a version of Lucy Kaplansky's The Tide that I actually like BETTER than the version Lucy's playing these days (Lucy's changed the original, and I like the original). Thankfully, she played it during the sound check! I also thought Christina Abbott, Cadence's neighbor, was unbelievable (and I think she sold the most CDs, aside from Cady), as were Terence Martin and Kevin Briody (official CT state troubadour), whose song "Walnuts & Rice" I adore. We tallied the money on the way home last night, and while I want Cadence to share the details when she's finished vegging out, I can say that she has enough to get herself started!!
