[CONE HEAD-REX Subject: [jangle-poets] If U've Wandered 'Til U're Weary... Hey U, JanglePoets & EZPeople! I set out 4 Sperryville, VA, in the late afternoon friday, rain started in Baltimore & I creeped around the north side of the DC beltway... man, what a hassel. As I headed west on 211 I was treated 2 a orange/ purple sunset out over the distant blueridge mountains. After topping off the tank @ $1.55 per gallon I rolled in2 the 'booming' metropolis of Sperryville, home of the Blue Moon Cafe. The Kennedys & Cadence were set up & enjoying their dinner in the company of a few friends & fans who were eagerly awaiting what turned out 2 B a wonderful show, the highlights of which include the 1st ever Voodoo Child in2 Angels Cry... Red House Blues W/ Stars Vanderlocket doing the lead vocal... an original Cadence Carroll drum chant... Luray Women (SiKahn)... Mystery... Then we were treated 2 a 3rd set including Feather In The Flame. It really was as good as it gets! After the Kennedys, a local bluesman Eric Sorenson treated us 2 a late set of acoustic blues on his resonophonic guitar... Kind of like dessert. Bayard was there celebrating his b-day W/ his sister & dad, Bayard Sr. Joanne & nooker Libby had a table up front. Greta came down from the Takoma Park radio free zone. Greg from Long Island, on vacation, stopped X 4 the show. Just after the sunrise I headed up the mountain in2 Shenandoah National Park & made my way along the Skyline Drive in THICK fog & drizzel W/ intermittant pockets of rainbow sunshine, 2 the Skyland Lodge & a 11AM rendevous W/ P&M, Cady, Joanne, Libby, Greg, Greta, Shenandoah (the dog), Alex (the kid) & family. We all hiked the nature trail 2 the top of Stony Man Mtn. On the very top of the mtn we could C all the way over 2 the far ridge of the Shenandoah valley W/ the town of Luray laid out below us. Out came the instruments & we launched in2 the anniversery edition of LifeIsLarge... Rappahannock Luray Women You Ain't Goin' Nowhere NotFadeAway... followed & I think that's about all we played. A big black cloud started creeping over the ridge & the weather appeared 2 B taking a turn 4 the worse. As we were packing up a random hiker, Debbie, who has been having some hard travelling lately, came 4ward & thanked us all 4 making her day & asked 4 more info about TK. Apparently she was converted on the spot. I suspect we will cross paths W/ Debbie further on down the line. I officially pronounce the Hike a fantastic success dispite the obvious weather difficulties. I guess it's a good way 2 separate the wheat from the chaff. I did hear talk of the Hike becomming an annual event & I sincerely hope the tradition pans out. The t-shirts should say TAKE A HIKE... W/ the Kennedys! After Cady, P&M headed down off the mtn, Libby, Joann, Greg, Greta, & myself found a spot on the Appalachain trail & had another informal workshop. We played songs X the IndigoGirls, SusanVega, Fred Eaglesmith, the NiELdS, & finished up W/ DancingInTheStreets. Joanne & Greta R good guitar players & they, W/ Libby R fairly decent singers also. Greg did percussions & a great time was had X all. Reluctantly we all said our goodbyes & headed out in separate directions, which 4 me happened 2 B northeast 2ward Allentown & an appointment W/ Nerissa NiELdS & the Kennedys on Sunday afternoon on sunday... Why? Because LIFE IS LARGE!
