Okay - ever since the W.Hartford show, when Cone mentioned to Al and I that the groovy couple played a B side Byrds number at Lena's ... well ... it's bugging me. I want to know. What was it? Was it Chestnut Mare? or was that an A side? I've had Chestnut Mare in my head all day. It was that kind of day. Mythic escapism was looking like a real option around about 3. Then I started thinking : who better to play it, today, than Pete and Maura? ~jim Always alone Never with a herd Prettiest mare I've ever seen You have to take my word Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2001 22:38:06 EDT From: Fantine729@aol.com Subject: Re: [jangle-poets] Byrds Tune? I want to know. What was it? Had the set list that night been a volleyball, we all would have stood there watching it bounce. I thought Bern was taking it down, and Bern thought I was getting it. And for the life of me, I can't remember what it was. Disclaimer: I wasn't there. So, I really have no idea. However, a guess: Is there any chance that it might have been Gene Clark's "She Don't Care About Time"? This was the B-side of the "Turn Turn Turn" single, and was the song on which Jim/Roger McGuinn quoted "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" in the middle. I have no idea if Pete and Maura have ever incorporated this song into their mix. This is just a guess. I have LONG wished that some group of musicians would put together a Gene Clark tribute disc, along the lines of the "Return of the Grievous Angel"/Gram Parsons tribute. I have no doubt that Chris Hillman, and Pete and Maura, (Roger McGuinn, probably?), and MANY others, would want to be a part of this. Gene was a relatively quiet, unassuming guy, but was an amazing songwriter and musician/singer. I am elderly enough/lucky enough to have seen The Byrds in concert in 1966, followed in the early '70s by 'solo' gigs of Gene Clark (twice), and Roger McGuinn. One of the things that I love the most about The Kennedys is their obvious love of The Byrds. ~Richard Hill - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Friday, April 20, 2001 9:38 PM Subject: Re: [jangle-poets] Byrds Tune? > In a message dated 4/20/01 10:27:44 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Jim writes: > > > Okay - ever since the W.Hartford show, when Cone mentioned to Al and I > > that the groovy couple played a B side Byrds number at Lena's ... well > > ... it's bugging me.
