Drove with Conehead about 720 miles. Saratoga Springs 4/13. The Kennedys on Good Friday. Caffe Lena is an awesome spot, and I hope to go back there someday. Sheila's family is so cool! It was nice to see trapper john once again. Too bad we don't have the setlist. Great show! Especially, of course, Pearl's Eye View. And Pete doing Bach on guitar. On Saturday, after T-John kicked us out, we drove through the Berkshires to the site of the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. If I had any doubts before, I'm definitely going to FR this year. It is so pretty up there. We also visited a certain waterfall nearby which was, according to Cone, way more turbulent than usual and incredibly majestic. All this beauty in my home state and I never even knew! Saturday night West Hartford Kennedys show. The Sounding Board is run by a bunch of very nice folks, the audience was very quiet but very perceptive. I cried several times this weekend. Especially during Purple Haze and California Dreaming. I hope the latter re-emerges later: I'd love to hear kennedys/nields doing this together. Cadence Carol is awesome and what a great singer! It was so much fun seeing everyone at the shows and actually making it to a show I wanted to see. It's been a while. Hooray for Jangley Poets like Pete & Maura!!! And Cosette, of course. bern, who realizes this post didn't contain much information, and who has to get her hands on the Dicky Chapelle books she found out about this weekend. We also visited a certain waterfall nearby which was, according to Cone, way more turbulent than usual and incredibly majestic. All this beauty in my home state and I never even knew!< Life is XXXL in the spring, my favorite season. A mystical weekend 2 B sure, starting W/ the fact that it began on Good Friday The 13TH. I totally creeped out the bank teller X presenting a savings bond dated November 22, 1963 on a date that just happened 2 B Thomas Jefferson's (my favorite president) birthday. Cherry & Dogwoods blooming in the rain, a new axle & alternator, it was on the road 2 do what I really do 4 a living, TEST DRIVE USED CARS! The sun came out as soon as Bern answered her phone, 4 a beautiful cruise along the Delaware @ Washington's Crossing. Topping off the tank in Mahwah, last gas in NJ, we took the scenic route up the Palisades 2 Stony Point/ Newberg & eventually on 2 the boring old EZPeople Thruway 2 Saratoga. W/O consulting a map we drove directly 2 Phila Street and located the Cafe Lena, the Kennedys, & Sheila. John soon showed up W/ Sharon, his teenage Xchange student girlfriend from Chile... Go John, Mr. George Fox incarnate! How does he do it? We definately had a quorum & proceeded 2 get down 2 buisness W/ the Kennedys. Thanks so much 2 John, Martha, Alex, & Josh 4 Xtending their wonderful hospitality 2 a couple of shady characters like Bern & myself. We had a great time staying up late gossiping about Krusty, April, & tED until we fell asleep in each other's arms... well, not really. John didn't really kick us out either, so I guess we're taking liberties here... He didn't have 2 give us the boot as I was in a hurry 2 get 2 the Martindale Cheif Diner, & the best baked Codfish that money can buy. Next stop the Hippy Clothes Store B4 the Kennedys show up & buy all the aloha shirts. We passed FRFF site on thw way down 2 BashBish Falls where we went hiking nakid from the upper lot 2 the falls & back. We pulled our shoes off our hot aching feet & waded in the icy cold water racing down 2 the falls... It was VERY refreshing. Bern is mistaken about the location of the falls. Bashbish is about 100 yards on the MA. side of the MA/NY state line. W/ all the melting snow & rain the water was up about 3-4 ft. creating a raging torrent right up 2 the rocks. The beach was underwater & U could feel the spray all the way up 2 the bottom of the steps! We tried 2 take the dirt road over Mt. Washington 2 CT. but we found that ice, snow, & mud still had the road closed so we turned around & took the long way thru Sheffield...
