That was my very first Kennedys show and what a great pair of sets. I finally got to see how Pete makes one guitar sound like three. I saw it, but I still don't believe my eyes. And Maura was slappin' bass like nobody's business. There were meddlies and stories and buckets of energy coming from the stage all night. During the second set, Maura introduced Cadence Carroll, who came up and played drum (that looks like a conga, but is smaller and squatter) with them. She was having the best time, judging by her smile. A really nice evening of clapping, sing along, and lots of laughing. ~jim Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2001 21:34:31 EST From: Fantine729@aol.com Subject: [jangle-poets] Bridgeport, the final installment The set list!! It was truly stream-of-consciousness jamming, and I didn't even attempt to keep up with writing them all down. It concluded with Sly Stone's "Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself." Maura and Pete both eventually set their guitars down and just sang with Cadence's beat, and then all three left the stage in a line, continuing to sing until they reached the back of the venue. It was a very cool way to end, except they were called back for a second encore....choosing that old English folk song -- She Loves You. It was all that Melissa and Jim said!! Thanks to my wonderful company, I had the best time I've ever had, and was very psyched to meet Melissa!! Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? WHY have they abandoned 'Evolver'? OK, maybe it's more of a 'band' album, but there certainly are songs on there that they could do as a trio or duo. And OK, maybe I won't even get to SEE the Kennedys for quite a while, and so maybe it doesn't directly affect me that they're not playing stuff from Evolver, but still... the album kicks ass and why kick it under the rug? huh? I know that the other night, they mentioned wanting to do a lot of stuff from their live album, which makes sense I think. There's no Evolver stuff on the live album, but I doubt they're abandoning those songs. I know I've heard a bunch of them in various shows in the past several months, but am too lazy to look up details. Besides, these guys will play any request (except McArthur Park, which is perhaps just as well), so just ask for Evolver songs!!
