Iwas there 2 witness the birth... It was an EZ delivery. Happy Birthday Maura, Nerissa, Katryna, Pete, David, Dave, & Davy. Out across the gentle rolling hills off 2 my left I noticed the herd, who appeared 2 have been spooked, galloping full steam ahead on a path that would intersect my own about 100 yards father up the road. I drove forward & stopped the car directly in front of the charging herd who were still about 50 yards away and closing fast. The herd was led X a large buck w/ a full trophy sized rack of antlers bearing directly 2ward where I had stopped the car. @ about 20 yards away the buck & I looked directly in2 each other's eyes, & in a moment of conscienous decision the buck altered his course & led the herd slightly 2 the left, crossing the road 10 ft. directly in front of the car. 4 does, a slightly smaller buck w/ a full rack, & a smaller 'button buck' bounded across the road & disappeared in2 the thick undergrowth headed west, down 2ward the creek. The event was all the more noticable 2 me as I have been toying w/ the idea of lost habittat as the seed 4 a tune that is writing it'sself in my head, & the deer that R left in this rapidly developing area, like me, R really taking a beating. Looking in2 the buck's eyes I could feel his desperate, hopeless frustration & I immediatly recognized him as a kindred spirit, who like myself, is rapidly running out of options. In that brief moment our spirits connected & feeling the buck's pain somehow lessened my own pain as I saw the similarities in the destiny of both human & beast. After they vanished in2 the brush & I continued down the road I thought about the book I've been reading, Cowboys Are My Weakness, & how cool it was that I could have this Xperience right here in the east coast, on the headwaters of the Chesapeake bay, w/o intentionally seeking out the 'great outdoors', or travelling a million miles 2 the middle of frostbitten nowhere. I've been up 1 side of the Rockies & down the other & of all those western Xperiences w/ wildlife never seemed as profound as the moment 2day when the human & the beast gazed in2 each other's eyes & mutually lamented their lost habitat. The Alternative 2 The Inauguration w/ the Kennedys @ the Twin Rivers Community Center my B the finest Kennedys per4mance I have ever witnessed! Special guest Cadence Carroll brought her conga magic 2 the stage 4 the entire 2 set show. Blessed w/ Bernadette's company I drove up thru the rain from visiting friends in Atlantic City. We arrived early & had plenty of time 2 check out the wonderful photo boards covered w/ shots of all the various artists who have per4med 4 the Outta Sights & Sounds concert series (they have photos of DN w/ a John Duffy haircut), & 2 hang out w/ Pete & Cadence (Maura has been ill w/ a inner ear infection & stayed in bed until showtime) making casual conversation. Cadence did her best 2 steal my heart w/ her beautiful yankee blue eyes, but I still hadn't recovered from Susan Werner's spell in Philly last weds night. The rythem of Cadence Carroll's conga playing contrasts very well w/ Maura's guitar & creates a solid pallet 4 Pete's improvisational abandon. Any chance 2 hear Cadence's cadence is an opportunity not 2 B missed, since she never misses a beat. She's right up there w/ Jules Graves rainbow beat. Highlights include Pete's intro on the origin of Distant Thunder, a heartwrenching Pearl's Eye View (this is a song we're going 2 hear on the radio after NanciGriffith's CD comes out), Humorous Dubya / Channey references out the whazoo, the 'laptop buddah' (U have zen) used as a guitar slide on Sirens, & the COOLEST 3 song encore medley(NotFadeAway>MR.LUCKYMAN>4WhatIt'sWorth) durring which Pete puts down his guitar, unplugs Maura (continues playing rythem) who steps in2 the audience w/ Pete (hand claps) & Cadence 1st, & then the audience gathering around her dancing & clapping the beat until Pete parts the crowd & the Maura & Cadence follow him single file out the door! What a mindblowing spontanious unplanned ending! The Kennedys outdid themselves in true NiELdS fashion. I think HaHaHa is wearing off on them. Yay! Cadence Carroll is a big NiELdSfan, although she is not on the nook or janglepoets yet. She is from Norwalk, CT, & has her own act also, so... let's all support Cadence Carroll as much as we can. She's a REALLY cool player! On the ride back 2 AC we were completely blinded X snow when the drivers wiper deceided 2 fly off & come 2 rest on the hood. I didn't want 2 stop w/ 4 inch ruts on the road... U should have seen Bern climb out her window, lean over the windshield & retrieve the wiper arm B4 it disappeared in2 a mid-night snowdrift. Great save Bern! I couldn't have done it w/o U. The Kennedys new Positively Live is available in 200 signed & numbered prerelease limited editions @ the shows & thru their website. Bern bought # 75. Somehow, yours truly has # 1... & IT'S SO GOOD... we're not letting it out!
