First off, HAPPY SIXTH ANNIVERSARY to Pete and Maura.  For everyone who sent 
me something, I made a little book and delivered it this evening...they LOVED 
it....I'm fairly certain they are going to send in something thanking 
everyone themselves, but they were very appreciative, and I thank everyone 
who was a part of it!!  

Now I can get to tonight's show, where, for the second night in a row (not to 
mention the second time EVER), Cone and I made an official quorum of 
Janglers.  This show was held at the Connecticut Audubon Society in 
Glastonbury (if anyone is ever in that neck of the woods, GO and check them 
out....I thought my local Audubon was cool, but they have NOTHING on these 
guys).  Present were some ferrets, a chinchilla, some rabbits, some water 
turtles, a land turtle who desperately wanted to be a tree frog (who was its 
cage-mate), a parakeet, rats, mice, a wicked cool snake who spent most of his 
time trying to figure out how to get through two layers of glass to the rat 
cage, doves, fish, a gecko....and those were the LIVE animals!!  There were 
tons of stuffed creatures there too.....oh yeah, there were also some humans 
who showed up for the show :-)

After helping to get some mice and other sundry rodents off their squeaky 
wheels so they wouldn't annoy the concert goers, I remembered to get a set 
list, AND I remembered to bring it home with me.  So, here goes:

Then came a new song called "Ride Angel Ride" with the subtitle of "the 
ballad of Pete and Maura."  This is my new favorite song, and it made me 
melt.  It was a perfect song to debut on their anniversary weekend at this, 
their annual anniversary pilgrimage to the CT Audubon Society.  

After the new song, they asked for requests, since we had been willing to 
listen to something new, and after a couple of verses of Purple Haze, they 
played

Fortune Teller Road
Shearwater
Life is Large

The first set was closed with a verse of McArthur Park, complete with very 
fine (melo)dramatic inflection by Maura.  This song was perhaps even MORE 
bizarre than hearing Purple Haze, but it was a lot of fun.

The second set included:

In My Kitchen
Winter Heart
Girl with the Blond Eye
Chimes of Freedom
Never What They Seem (another new song, not sure of the title)
Orange Blossom Special
One Heart, One Soul (which always makes me feel SO much a part of humanity 
     it makes me cry!)

reprise of Life is Large

Encores were Take a Message to Mary and that time-tested old English folk 
song, She Loves You.  

This was such a great venue.....I loved the critters.  The staff were a bunch 
of really cool, impassioned idealists (my favorite kind of people :-) who so 
totally believe in what they're doing there, and they, like all Audubon 
chapters, do so much in terms of education.  I grew up on farmland, where you 
couldn't even see your nearest neighbor, so my world was filled with 
creatures from pond, stream, woodland, fields, farm.....we didn't need field 
trips to the local Audubon society.  I fear too many kids, however, have 
yards measured in square feet instead of acres and acres and have to have 
recess on asphalt......these are kids who need the Audubon's programs.  There 
are also cool classes for adults....I've taken several at my local society.  
So, go join now or find out if they need volunteers!!

Okay, impassioned rant over :-)

It's been a GREAT two nights......and, thanks to propitious alignments of the 
planets or something, I get to see Pete and Maura again in only TWO more 
weeks!!  Hooray!!

Wow, Sheila, I'm so jealous!!!  You've gotten to see The Kennedys twice and
The Nields in TWO DAYS!  And all the animals at tonight's show sound really
cool too.  I'm a sucker for cute animals!  Groovy thinks he would have been
very happy there!  By the way, speaking of groovy... I think that my guitar
has also adopted the name "groovy".  Originally it was Mr. Guitar
(actually, originally, it was a girl because of the mother-of-pearl inly...
but it always got referred to as a guy anyhow), and then it became Mr. G.
Then I thought "groovy guitars"... and it is still Mr. G... but G referrs
to both Guitar and Groovy.  It's a multi-named guitar, actually.  And
groovy the fish is very happy to have something else (you know, besides the
G chord) named after him!

Anyhow, HAPPY ANNEVERSARY to the kennedys!  YAY!!!

anelle slaps self profusely for not getting anything done for the kennedys'
anniversary...even after working on it for awhile, and then having to quit,
and then having too many lab reports.....*sigh*  bad anelle.....but happy
anniversary anyway!!
