Out in the parking lot! Rockville, MD! Oct 25!!!! Jess Klein is AWESOME!!!! A wonderful singer/songwriter with an incredible voice that touches me to my very core! Her songs have an incredible depth to them. Have you not heard "The Cloud Song?" Have you not heard "I Tried?" Have you not heard "Open Me?" Have you not heard the raw emotion of "I Sure Would????" If you "don't get it" then.... well.... well... then I guess I can't explain it. :-) don (seeing Jess twice in one week. And once with Erin McKeown. That comes close to topping my 3 10km shows in 3 days) What we do in love and kindness Is all we ever leave behind -- Carrie Newcomer, "Bare To The Bone" Don Semmens; Richmond VA; donsem@concentric.net Visit my Regan Site http://www.concentric.net/~donsem/regan.htm Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Oct 2000 03:34:57 EDT From: Fantine729@aol.com Subject: [jangle-poets] Greenwich Please excuse the crossposting, for those on both the Nields and the Kennedys lists! I am the happiest, happiest person on the face of the earth right now. Tonight's show ROCKED. A friend was telling me a week ago not to get too excited, especially so soon, because then everything would be an anticlimax....I'm so glad I ignored her, because there was no way I could have built this show up to be better than it was!! The audience was a bit reserved, but it seemed like they were having fun. And if not, well, I was! I have a partial set list, as I left the second napkin back at the venue, so maybe someone can help fill in what I miss.....I might be able to construct some of it by memory, but I'm sure there will be gaps. First off were Pete and Maura, who started out, as usual, with Life is Large (hooray)!! This was followed by River of Fallen Stars; You Can't Kill Hope With a Gun; (was it me or was there some other, maybe new song after this?); an amazing, amazing rendering of Down, Down, Down; Wheels (a Nanci Griffith song.....at least I think this was the title); Pick You Up; Sirens; and a brief reprise of Life is Large. Then came Nerissa and Katryna. I might have the order of these songs out of whack, because I forgot I was writing down the set list and had to reconstruct it a few songs into the set. They played: This Town is Wrong Barbie Jennifer Falling Down Giving Them Back to Susan (with such a sweet dedication by Katryna to her big sister) Georgia O (a request) I Know What Kind of Love This Is a brand spanking new song with no title yet, sung by Nerissa for now (Katryna doesn't know the words yet) and dedicated to David for their anniversary May Day Cafe Taxi Girl (a request shouted out from the audience) This is the extent of my first napkin. I believe from here, they sang Superhero Soup, with a REAL LIVE SUPERHERO flitting around stage (funny...she and Maura just missed each other though :-) Somewhere in all that were also Jeremy Newborn Street, Mr. Right Now, Best Black Dress, Keys to the Kingdom, a new song by Pete and Maura whose name is totally eluding me right now, and maybe that was it.....oh, oh, oh, Gillian Welch's Orphan Girl (I LOVE this song). Seems like there must have been one or two more, but I can barely keep my eyes open right now. Highlights for me included Nerissa and Katryna persuading Pete to come out to play on David's anniversary song, even though he had never even heard it before. Nerissa said in the intro that it just called out for a Pete Kennedy guitar solo in the middle, so he came out and made one up, sitting cross-legged on the stage with Katryna!! My jaw was in my lap. UNbelievable. Other fun stuff included finally being able to put some faces to names....April I'd met before (but still really cool to see you, and I'm really glad you came to the show tonight, even though it meant not being able to see your beloved Kris).....I also met Harry, Cone, Jamie and Bruce (I think that was all I met, but feel free to correct me if I'm neglecting to mention someone). Thank you all for your company.....the only thing better than great music is great people with whom to share it!! I so very sorry I couldn't make it to get you, Matt. Your presence was missed, and I knew it was my fault. I am heading to bed now.....another Kennedys show awaits me Saturday night!! :-) Peace, Sheila If humpbacks lived on land, why did they return to the sea?  Ponder this. -- The Kennedys' Dashboard Buddha Check out the Kennedys' Official Home Page: http://www.KennedysMusic.com/ Fab photos, the Official tour diary, dashboard Buddha haiku, groovy merchandise...what more could you ask for? ------------------------------ End of jangle-poets-digest V2 #58 *********************************
