Hello! Happy that jangle-poets is here, and I'm glad to be here, too. While I will likely be here mostly in lurkdom, I thought I'd introduce myself. I am Richard Hill, I'm in Urbana, Illinois, I am most active on the [moonpie]-list (Kate Campbell), and I'm mostly a lurker on the lists of Lucy Kaplansky, Gillian Welch, Greg Brown, Susan Werner, Nanci Griffith, and Alison Krauss. "Evolver" is easily one of my favorite discs of the year. It's such a unique and refreshing disc. My favorite song on the disc is "Here Without You". I am NOT one to dwell in the past (I'll be showing my age here), but I've always loved that song and Gene Clark's singing and writing in general. The first time I heard the song done 'live' was by The Byrds in 1966 (in Chicago). Then, I was also fortunate enough to have caught Gene Clark twice at a small club here in Champaign in the mid-'70s. (For that matter, I saw Roger McGuinn a couple times at that same club). I go to concerts the way other people go to movies (about 60 or 65 in the past year and a half). I'll be seeing Richie Havens tomorrow in Decatur, and Carrie Newcomer will be stopping in to our Borders store in Champaign in a couple weeks for a free quickie, before returning in the fall. Some of you mentioned the "Ha Ha Ha" tour, we saw the "Ha Ha Cry" variation recently at the Old Town School (Pete, Maura, Richard Shindell). This is the only time I've been priveleged to catch the Kennedys in concert. Needless to say, we were just blown away by them. The songwriting, the song selection of the covers, the amazing guitar work. Bottom line: a Kennedys concert is FUN! One more comment on 'Evolver', the most amazing thing to me about it is that the whole thing was recorded in MOTEL rooms!?! If they can get this kind of sound, recording under such conditions, why doesn't everybody just do it this way? It's one of the best sounding discs I own. Pete and Maura recorded the song "Too Much Lonely" at the Shoney's in Nashville with Kate Campbell. I certainly hope that we do get to hear that one, down the road at some point. (It was recorded when the other 'Evolver' stuff was, but just didn't 'fit' in the mix for the disc). Well, this is plenty long-winded enough. I envy you on this one! You're in for a treat. One of my favorite concerts ever was the double bill last year of Lucy Kaplansky AND Jennifer Kimball!
