None of the records are played in their entirety, but White Stripes fans may enjoy the Jack white interview. More importantly, it's interesting to hear snippets of the man himself, culled from various programmes. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jan 2011 20:19:45 +0000 From: BARRETT IAN Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Peel Podcast Using a fairly tenuous Peel link, my own outfit The Truth About Frank made this year's Festive 50 (now with its official home on Dandelion Radio) at number 9. Feel a bit cheeky mentioning it here but was pretty pleased about it. A couple of songs did show some serious fire ("Moreover," "Smash") and I liked "Please Take" as well but overall the album struck me as feeling kind of settled. I agree that O47 had some really great stuff on it and I actually think I'll be listening to that more in the future than RBT. And for potential irony, I'm currently listening to the 12/1/87 album from Wire's bootleg series and am really liking it. Definitely will not miss them when they play SF in a few months! Object 47 has really high highs but for some reasons it doesn't stick in my head as much as RBT. But I would never describe a Wire album as a "return to form" because Wire has SO MANY forms, that's what I love about this group - all eras are equally welcome to me. Early favorite is "Smash" as it seems to have all my favorite aspects of Wire but the title track is haunting in it's beauty. And "Bad Worn Thing", wow, Graham is almost groovy! I can't wait to see them in Boston. The bonus disc for preorders - I wish every band did this as it's a great way to get my money directly to the artist and give a little back to the fans. So nice to hear these songs rerecorded in their current style! Margaret's voice makes an interesting addition to the old favorites. I hope these men never stop making music. Each release seems so perfect for the time and miles beyond their much younger contemporaries. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V13 #10 *******************************
