Object 47 has really high highs but for some reasons it doesn't stick in my head as much as RBT. But I would never describe a Wire album as a "return to form" because Wire has SO MANY forms, that's what I love about this group - all eras are equally welcome to me. Early favorite is "Smash" as it seems to have all my favorite aspects of Wire but the title track is haunting in it's beauty. And "Bad Worn Thing", wow, Graham is almost groovy! I can't wait to see them in Boston. The bonus disc for preorders - I wish every band did this as it's a great way to get my money directly to the artist and give a little back to the fans. So nice to hear these songs rerecorded in their current style! Margaret's voice makes an interesting addition to the old favorites. I hope these men never stop making music. Each release seems so perfect for the time and miles beyond their much younger contemporaries. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Jan 2011 19:36:05 -0500 From: Jon Whitney Subject: Re: [idealcopy] RBT i just finally received mine today here in boston too initially i too am more into it than Object 47 but i still feel there was a certain element of something (maybe it was noise, energy, experimentalism, or unconventionalism) they were incorporating on R&B 01, 02, and Send that i am longing to hear but isn't there... i am excited about the show too! jon On Tue, Jan 18, 2011 at 4:23 PM, Mitchell Dickerman wrote: > Maybe I've lost all objectivity (even Manscape and The First Letter sound > better today than 20 years ago) but Red Barked Tree is just brilliant. > Object 47 has really high highs but for some reasons it doesn't stick in my > head as much as RBT.
