This is actually the best price I've seen for this tempting if slightly overpriced ( for four vinyl albums, an ep, a book and a t-shirt - oh, and a stencil) item. Rother was due to sign copies of a 12" ltd edition of 2 tracks from Neu 86 (the full album to be included in the box set) at Rough Trade as part of Record Store Day a couple of Saturday's back, but was prevented from attending due to the flight restrictions. Rough Trade want to reschedule - so they just might do this in conjunction with the release of the box....I live in hope. Should anyone fancy one of the 12" singles (ltd to 1000), Rough Trade still had copies on their web site yesterday. I'm sure there are some Arab Strap fans on the list. They had a box set "limited to 200" available as part of the Record Store event. These turned out to be 200 issued for the event from an actual 1,000 copies. Not everyone's picked up on this. I got a copy direct from Chemical Underground last week but they were going fast. For those interested its "Scenes of a Sexual Nature" and concentrates on the early days of the band with five vinyl discs, "The Weekend Never Starts...", "Philophobia" (2xlp), "Scenes of a Sexual Nature" (2xlp) featuring sessions and rarities, a CD of BBC gigs, a CD of ep tracks, a reproduction of their original demo cassette, a data disc of mp3s of the vinyl and cassette tracks plus 2 mp4s of videos, a poster of memorabilia/cuttings all numbered and signed by Aidan and Malcolm. About B#75 inc p&p from Glasgow. Very nice. http://shop.chemikal.co.uk/acatalog/CHEM134.html#aCHEM134 Regards, Tony. ------------------------------ > > Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2010 08:59:15 +0100 > From: "keith a" > Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Neu! > > And for the affluent Neu fan there's this... > > http://www.phonicarecords.com/product/view/62223 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2010 07:15:19 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Re: idealcopy-digest V12 #49 OT:Neu ! /Arab Strap box sets >>Should anyone fancy one of the 12" singles (ltd to 1000), Rough Trade still had copies on their web site yesterday.<< Thanks for the tip - wasn't aware of this! You may be able to find it if you check the nooks and crannies of the web. Like he says, the 80's weren't the heyday of this sort of thing. I have heard the Dinger version of Neu 86 and it was a very patchy affair but the cussedness of it appealed to me - a bit like the way the second half of Neu 2 is made up of sped up, slowed down and otherwise mangled versions of previous recordings. Some of those La Dusseldorf recordings had tinkly novelty-record sounding tunes and production. I'm still keenly awaiting hearing it - its working its way up a huge pile... - --On 27 April 2010 16:43 +0100 keith a wrote: > Just ordered one, too. Not heard the 80's stuff TBH. Not heard the 80's stuff TBH. This review from Normans doesn't exactly sell it! We scored a few of these Record Store Day things and this was one of 'em. I was ludicrously excited when I heard it was coming out being a bit of a fan 'n all. Here's you get 2 tracks from Neu '86 and when I stuck Euphoria on I didn't expect it to sound like Tiffany 'I Think We're Alone Now'. I mean you can hear it's Neu underneath it all... all the ingredients are there but the production is very very mid 80's and if I'm honest, kinda cheesy sounding. It is very euphoric sounding though so I'd give it that. I suppose that is the B side (I fancied a change). The A side 'Crazy' is much better. The 1st time I hard it I didn't like it but after listening to Euphoria I like it much more now. It's weirdly reassuring to hear Klaus Dinger shouting Crazy Me, Crazy You Over and over again over a fast cyclical beat and some slightly crass sounding rock guitars. So in came the thwacking drum machines and cheesy synths. In the 70s they'd had to really push the limits of mono synths, guitar fx, tapes etc, but now they just had to hit preset #1. Similarly I bought a Moebius & Plank album from the early 90s the other day. nice sounds ruined by masive programmed disco drums all over it. M >>Doesn't surprise me.
