He was a leading player in Random Hold which is a name I vaguely remembered from that era. He was also a driving force for musicians rights and had major roles in the associated bodies. I checked out 'Meat' by Random Hold on Youtube and was mightily impressed. It was just like a typical Peelie track from that era if such a thing can be said. Took me right back to those days. Does anyone have any knowledge of RH or ever see them? Apparently, they supported the early Ants at a rock garden gig that was invaded by Nazi supporters and Dave got up from behind his keyboards and demanded they take him on one by one! Wish I was there... U. PS Dave Ferguson is also the name of a london punk who was on the scene forever who I used to know. If there ever was a band that crossed post-punk with prog (in 1980), it was Random Hold. (And I mean that in a good way.) RH tracks "Avalanche" and "Precarious Timbers" have long stayed in my music rotations. Anyway, re the recent single...you can hear it here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyuW4niDNOA ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Jul 2009 08:38:20 -0700 From: Rick Hindman Subject: Re: [idealcopy] OT Random Hold I had a chance to see Random Hold when they warmed up for Peter around 1980, after his third album had been released. They did two shows at the Warfield in SF and I was impressed enough to immediately go out and get their LP, which in addition to the two track mentioned had a song called "What Happened to You?" that a friend's band covered for several years. If I recall correctly, Dave didn't use his name on the album, instead having the credit read "Keyboards and vocals by Random Hold" or something to that effect. In addition to Ferguson, Random Hold also had David Rhodes on guitar (who later became Peter's guitarist/co-songwriter) and Bill McComick (from 801) on bass. Pretty good stuff at the time, although I have to admit to not having listened to them in at least 15 years. Sad to hear about Dave.
