(The Microsoft advisory os over a month old - kind of a shame it isn't patched yet, but the most dangerous vulnerabilities are the ones that aren't common knowledge) On Jul 7, 2009 12:24pm, Bruno Clements wrote: > Just as well Firefox is so easy to use! > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Ari" threeduggaduggas@yahoo.com> > To: idealcopy@smoe.org> > Sent: Tuesday, July 07, 2009 5:37 PM > Subject: [idealcopy] OT: i.explorer > > > http://tech.yahoo.com/news/ap/20090707/ap_on_hi_te/us_tec_microsoft_security > This email has been scanned for viruses and other threats using > Newsquest's > Ironport email filters. > This document is private and confidential. > All property, copyright and other rights in it and its contents belong to > Newsquest Media GroupLimited. > It must not be read, copied, disclosed or otherwise used without > Newsquestb s > authorisation. An antivirus solution configured to update at least once daily and a current version of whatever your OS and browser of choice reduces the probability of compromise significantly. Avoiding pirated media and software helps a lot too, Note that neither the Windows/IE issue Ari linked to and the Firefox issue I linked to are applicable to the latest version of Windows or Firefox. Also, there is some indication that the issue Ari linked to could be exploited with other browsers configured to play wmv files using directshow. It's just such a PITA to do so, that the likelihood is reduced.
