This is much more of a concert film/tour document than "I Am Trying To Break You Heart", which of course chronicled recording sessions too, but the songs here are from solid to real good (I'm more a fan of good rock films than of the band), so many will find it quite enjoyable. The technical aspects of the film (photography, editing, sound, etc) are great. Don't get me wrong, Tweedy is a very good writer, his singing seems to fit everything well, he's a much better guitar player now than when I saw Uncle Tupelo back when I lived in Chicago, and the band is tight/loose in all the right places.... but (insert DEITY here) bless Nels Cline. When that motherfucker plays, I have to stand up and salute. v > > Date: Fri, 3 > From: "Bruno Clements" > Subject: Wilco Wilco > > Just played the new Wilco album on Spotify. One funny incident happened when Wilco played here last week. Tweedy got kind of testy with a fan who was sitting in the front row and complaining about the sound. He tried to let it go but kept berating him for it, finally actually going over to the corner of the stage and slightly turned one monitor a bit more towards the person. Finally towards the end of the show he went off on him again this time pointing out "We're here! We're performing live! And Nels Cline is five fucking feet in front of you! Isn't that good enough for you?!?" The crowd loved that! Good time, good times... Ouch. I liked them when Jim O'Rourke messed their sound up. But the cheerful yee-ha country stuff of the early albums leaves me cold. Unfortunately they seem to be heading back there...
