It was the most I've ever effectively paid for a Wire ticket as we were too late to catch more than one act at the Barfly and then the Big Pink before Wire. Still, I'd never have guessed they - and I - would still be going strong 30 years after I first saw them, so no complaints! The band seemed pleased with a good and enthusiastic turnout at the Electric Ballroom, especially considering they were up against Madness/Echo in the same time slot at other venues. Good mix of songs including nods to the '80s with Boiling Boy and newer stuff (I Don't Understand) though you'll have to excuse the fact that I can't recall anything from Object being played - don't think I've dipped into that one lately. Rounded off with Pink Flag (of course - Aberdeen 2006 is the version I've enjoyed most) and no encores due to the nature of the Crawl. The night was rounded off with a fish curry and I just about survived a 75-mile cycle ride from Hampshire over the West Sussex Downs to Chichester and back with my mates the next day. They were at the Scala gig last year with me too and I think the vote narrowly went to the Ballroom gig, not helped by our late arrival at the Scala though which had a nice 'gig for the fans' sort of atmosphere. Be nice if they could get Margaret involved in writing a song or two... she looks a bit bored at times, as I suppose any 'session' musician would. Surely she's well up to contributing, though...
