The Rough Trade doc was worth it for a rare airing of Delta Five alone - god, they were good. another the Keith - -----Original Message----- From: PAUL RABJOHN [mailto:paulrabjohn@btinternet.com] Sent: 14 March 2009 19:42 To: Keith Knight; idealcopy@smoe.org Subject: Re: [idealcopy] tv tonight well to each his own keith , but i always thought AJ struggled to match 80's marc almond , which is not exactly a ringing endorsement. also a tad mono-faceted but i will concede i've not heard all the new album. just saw a tiny bit of the RT doc , it looked like a load of footage from the old "south bank show" from 79 or thereabouts. looking forward to sitting down and watching it all , like tim said this stuff gets shown very rarely indeed. so did sudden sway make the cut? ;-) p B _____ From: Keith Knight To: PAUL RABJOHN ; idealcopy@smoe.org Sent: Friday, 13 March, 2009 8:57:03 PM Subject: RE: [idealcopy] tv tonight Hmm, I'm thinking that the Antony & The Johnsons album may be the best thing I've heard so far this year - but then I haven't heard that much. D5 was Riverside possibly? >>its john martyn night this friday.....<< Sort of. They're showing the 'Johnny Too Bad' doc from last year, plus a 30min 1978 OGWT special (again shown last year). But on Sunday there's John Martyn at the BBC' - 60 mins, which is more promising as it'll have the early 70s OGWT stuff as well (that fantastic 'I'd rather be the devil' solo version with the echoplex guitar). Suspect it'll be laced with some iffy recent jazz rock stuff off Later as well. BBC4 is frustrating at the moment - doing some great programmes, but not raiding the archive enough for surrounding material. Why not show the Smiths/Aztec Camera Rock Goes to College shows with the RT stuff. Or the BBC Wales Scritti Politti doicumentary from about 8 years ago - surely the definitive RT band... If you're going to have Rough Trade Night - or John Martyn Night - make a full night of it!
