A couple of weeks back I mentioned seeing Julian Cope in Liverpool on his recent busking trip. Anyway, I've finally got round to putting my footage onto youtube if anyone is interested in watching the great man perform an acoustic Sleeping Gas in the street! Apologies if it's a bit wobbly at first - I was trying in vain to put my glove back on (It was freezing!) Stay with it if you like Julian though cos I got some extreme close-up's!! ; ) Part 1 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6YecWkmvcQU Part 2 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9GNPzOhGWq8 Unfortunately, he's had to cancel his forthcoming 3 hour London RFH gig on doctors advice (and no it wasn't due to poor ticket sales - it more or less sold out). You can't help wondering if any illness is as a result of these performances? Of course this is only going to add to the legendary status of the busking trip in years to come. You know, he played to 20 folk in fields and streets here and there in the freezing cold and a couple of weeks later was too ill to play a prestigous London extravaganza (and thereby presumably missing out a nice pay day and the opportunity to sell the specially prepared merchandise). It's no consolation now, but this will of course add to the legend in a post-turtle shell kinda way. Indeed I anticipate that this will move him up at least 3 places in the Observer Top 10 Eccentrics! ; ) Keith (I must confess that this is the first time I've ever put anything up on youtube and I've gotta say I'm disappointed with the quality. I'd always assumed that the lesser quality of a lot of stuff there was due to the actual recording, but obviously not) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Nov 2008 21:21:24 -0000 From: "Keith Knight" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Julian Cope Busking Tour - the video! Thanks for this Keith, as it's all I'm going to get to see of the Great Man as he's cancelled the RFH gig, citing "he has been very ill for the last ten days with a throat infection and he was today advised by his doctor that his throat must be rested for at least another week. Due to the intricate nature of the planned 3-hour show, which involved strings and a large 10-piece musical ensemble the difficult decision has therefore been taken to cancel rather than postpone the performance... Julian is devastated by these events and passes on his sincere apologies". Good clip quality seems v good by YouToob standards, and what a surreal scene! Very atmospheric, Matthew Street cobblestones glinting in the rain...ah..... Whats with the Hells Angels aesthetic tho?!
