I also suspect that the band were knackered. They'd already played two encores and so probably weren't expecting to come out for a third. Judging by the noise I could hear (I was in the upstairs bar by that time), the crowd would quite possibly have torn Scala down had the band not reappeared. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Sep 2008 15:23:48 +0100 From: "Clements, Bruno - BUP" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Scala Yes, superb stuff. We were late owing to my friends celebrating at Paddington with someone (we couldn't persuade him to go to the gig) who had just had a job offer. We left Paddington at 9.25pm and arrived during Being Sucked... Since my mate had to be up at 4am to get on the Lille train at 7am there wasn't much chance of meeting up for drinks afterwards, which was a shame. My friends danced around the upstairs bar space with quite some abandon during some numbers! Hope you all got home safely. The setlist was similar and it turns out that it won't vary much as, when the crowd called them back for a second, unplanned, encore they claimed they didn't have any more songs despite the absence of 'Circumspect'. So they played 'Our Time' - which they had opened the set with - again. The relationship with the crowd was great - a young 'uns mosh pit formed late on - and the band were on fire. Great, absolutely great. Another the Keith www.thisisnorthcliffe.co.uk Any opinions expressed in this e-mail are those of the individual and not necessarily the company. Agree too that Perspex Icon was superb. It's interesting how many of the new songs are being tinkered with already - One of Us especially sounds much heavier than on record. The crowd were certainly encouraged by the fact that the lights didn't go on after 12XU. I presume the band realised that this was a special night and chose not to send the message to turn them on - I don't know how this works really come to think of it. Bramah's avery different kind of guitarist to McGeogh. Wonder when Lard last 'bothered his axe'? Vini is a good call - he might be able to withstand the rigours of two gigs. John Squire also fits the bill of "Manc name guitarist" and he's enough of a technician to do McGeogh... I'd still favour Robin Simon, given that he's done it before. Thanks Guys for the Scala Inputs.. much appreciated.. The "Torch", it seems. has been passed up the M1 North to Leeds for me to correspond ALA Wire Leeds Cockpit Tuesday 9th Sept My reservations Before arrival at the venue at it beng a poky little snotpit cockpit were well and truly blown out of the water! The venue is small & low [underneath the railway bridge arches of Leeds City Station] but very intimate ooh! WIRE Have not played Leeds since November 1978, lots of banter from EGL about that fact .. crowd in great spirit asking for Harvest material all night.. What was noticeable since the Futuresonic Manchester 08 gig, back in the day! THE SOUND! Wire are Wire once more, VIA the sound. Which was PHEN-OM-I-NAL To my ears The Harvest sound set to Object 47!! One reservation was Margaret's Guitar sounded too low in the mix and although executed perfectly was missing the decibels ! and Bruces Stubborn Sonic Repetititious Beauty [sorry couldn't help myself] Also noted was the Audience was 90% Male indeed a Gentleman's club night out Nottingham Get ready>> WIRE are indeedy on Fire.. sublime..
