Not only Colin contributes but Russell Mills (Gilbert and Lewis collaborator) and WMO/Pink Flag sleeve designer Dave Coppenhall. __________________________________________________________ Sent from Yahoo! I just thought that version was a bit ropey. I guess the fact that Colin felt the need to say it was the first time they'd played it live speaks volumes! K. Ungrateful bastards. The funny thing is, it seems a lot of people don't know what is old Wire anyway. I remember being at one of the Garage gigs, and someone who claimed to be from a record label (Geffen, IIRC) didn't have a clue. When Wire were belting out Advantage in Height, he was saying how Wire should play more of its stuff from the 1980s, but without a hint of irony or ignorance. Very odd. >> Perspex Icon (live) >> This is the one that was played live for the 1st time, which would >> explain >> why it sounds a wee bit ropey. For some reason, the recorded version reminds me of a harder version of Cheeking Tongues, probably due to Colin's vocal, the buzzing guitars and the tempo, although Perspex beats the IC track by some way. Say what you will about the new material but the sound was pretty bad and it didn't benefit the repetitive droning style which was unpunctuated by older material until late in the set. When they did get around to classic stuff like the 15th it was quite weak, lots of missed chords and the band seemed to not know what parts each other were playing. Anyways, good to see them out, shame about the show. Though I heard them playing Lowdown as I pedaled off" You can't leave now !! .... I just can't get my brain around the idea of leaving a Wire gig before the end... they'd want to be playing the fucking Birdie Song or something before I'd leave, but then I probably wouldn't just for the sheer fuck off-ness of hearing them play it...I think they'd want to do a Faust and fire fertilizer into the crowd before I'd leave.. but this fuckin' eejit "heard Lowdon as I pedaled off" Honest to god.
