(not to our non-UK based friends , Orville was an oversized green duck who formed part (the better part) of a ventriloquist act on duff 80's TV. not sighted in ages i'd thought , until.......) well i was sitting with the kids this morning watching a show called "The Slammer" (concept ; talent show in a prison , winner gets to go free) and who should appear but the aforementioned Orville (with his mate Keith Harris , natch). in a highly surreal moment , the track used for his grand entrance was "Wake Up" by Rage Against the Machine , which segued beautifully into a rendition of Orville's 80's hit "I Wish I Could Fly". (This really did happen , honest). Sadly Orville only came 2nd to a 9-year old Bollywood dancer (it wasn't explained why she was in prison. I guess for Keith and Orv it was more obvious). But he did beat Mr Methane and his Flatulent Frolics ( kids TV has moved a long way since Camberwick Green it would appear). the Only Ones never did any new stuff at the gig i saw last year. and Pete never looked like a duck either. p - ----- Original Message - ---- From: Keith To: PAUL RABJOHN ; idealcopy@smoe.org Sent: Saturday, 5 April, 2008 12:42:59 PM Subject: RE: [idealcopy] only ones on tv Thought the version of AGAP was a bit ropey on Tues, particularly the backing vocs (and it seemed a bit sluggish at times). I would have said more like John Cooper Clarke meets Joe Pasquale. The duck has already been explained to non UK viewers. Worth noting that its operator Keith Harris is the only person to have turned down a cameo role on Ricky Gervais' Extras. Didn't do Robert De Niro or Bowie any harm but Harris wasn't havin any of it. Joe Pasquale is a dreadful Helium-voiced UK comedian.
