They are interesting but not a little irritating. The singer, Dave Longstreth looks and acts like David Byrne in 77 with six inches added - he plays a high guitar tucked under his arm, in a fractured, jangly fashion (you can tell my lack of musical knowledge from that comment). He's flanked by two young women (called Angel and Amber) who play guitar and bass and sing in close harmony on all the songs. This makes for an interesting sound, as it's not something you hear very often and I'd have liked to have heard them in a different context as Longstreth keeps butting in and spoiling the effect. Most of the songs sound like sketches towards something else. They were apparently playing songs from their last album, Rise Above, which is a reinterpretation of Black Flag's 'Damaged' album from memory. I don't know this album at all so the result is lost on me but I admire the concept if not the execution. A band who have greatness locked in them I suspect but who will probably never tap it while Longstreth ploughs his own furrow. I dig their unique sound, though it may not appeal to all Copyists. The Academy 2 is what used to be called the Debating Hall (MDH) on the first floor of the Mcr University Union. Its yer bog-standard student venue...just a big room with a bar and a stage. > anyone local can advise on how big that venue it is and how likely to > sell out quickly? its #14 a pop. I think Academy 2 holds about 800 although as the gig is part of the Futuresonic festival presumably they'll hold some space back for Weekend Ticketholders so tickets will be more limited than usual. Pretty sure it will sell out in advance though. Not sure how fast..Wire haven't played Manchester for 18 years! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 9 Mar 2008 06:38:41 +0000 (GMT) From: elektrolad Subject: [idealcopy] music lovers unite "Everyone who loves music loves the internet. I think the reason why the record companies are so afraid for the internet is the incredible amount of crap they publish. If people can hear the music first, it will get harder to con people. It will become harder to market bad music as if it was detergent and get away with it. ___________________________________________________________ Rise to the challenge for Sport Relief with Yahoo!
