[Ari Subject: [idealcopy] Killing Joke tour I suppose some people have caught on to this, but here is the information from their site, and damn it no mention of San Francisco yet... and it better be one of those residences things. ~ ORIGINAL LINE UP RETURN!!! JAZ, GEORDIE, YOUTH AND BIG PAUL WORLD TOUR Finally, after numerous line-up changes through the years, all original Killing Joke members reunite for new album and world tour. Drummer, Paul Ferguson, rejoins the line up for the first time since 1987 enabling a whole new generation of fans to see Killing Jokes legendary original formation. Diehard fans have been waiting for this moment for two decades! Bassist, Martin Youth Glover also steps back into the live arena after a near 15 hiatus, having not played live with Killing Joke since 1994s Pandemonium tour. The tour will see Killing Joke take up a two night residency in most venues offering a different set on each evening. On the first night, they will play their first two albums in their entirety, 1980s self- titled album followed by the album Whats ThisFor!. Their second performance in each city will treat fans to 1994s Pandemonium and the Island Records singles of79 to 80. Once described by Ferguson as the sound of the earth vomiting, Killing Joke is anthemic and grandiose in its evocation of nightmare visions. Taking a sarcastic jab at authority and perceived reality to a sonically charged mixture of post punk and metal, Killing Jokes heavy guitars and pounding tribal drums conjure a primitive atmosphere of doom, gloom and resistance. Notorious for their use of inflammatory imagery, a backlash against a world they perceived as ever more materialistic, unjust and conservative, Killing Joke, railed against the establishment and created a unique sound from their very conception. Ironically, in the current musical climate with its obsession with rehashing eighties sounds, the 80s saw Killing Joke really pushing music forward, incorporating danceable elements with aggressive, grinding guitars and thumping drums. With elements of proto-techno rock, their post apocalyptic vision has inspired bands as diverse and influential as Nirvana, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden and Godflesh. Killing Joke have always been and continue to be more than just a band. Godfathers of post-punk, Killing Joke return with their eagerly anticipated new album to coincide with their world tour. I'm downloading this right now. Lock-groove records are very interesting. My favorite is Non's "Pagan Music," a 7" one-sided record in a 12" sleeve, with some randomly punched off center holes in the label as well as the one in the center to have other playback options. Two things happen when listening to a groove for an extended amount of time, even just a few minutes: 1) a lock groove, no matter how dissonant, with enough repetition, becomes consonant; and 2) Subject: [idealcopy] bruce gilbert on this rare find items http://www.eggcityradio.com/?p=198 ****************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE: This E-Mail is intended only for the use of the individual or entity to whom it is addressed and may contain information that is privileged, confidential and exempt from disclosure under applicable law. I'm also d'loading it now. I love lock grooves. Ya know, I haven't listened to Sgt Pepper on vinyl in so long, I forgot about the lock groove. And there's another bad thing about CD's. Though I finally came to accept them for being way more convenient than records, and subsequently started buying them more often, having never owned GYBE's F#A#b on vinyl, I didn't even know about the lock groove on there.B And a fun faux lock groove story... When I first bought Whatever Happens Next byB Swell Maps, and I got to side 2 or 3 (whichever has the song Sheep Dip), the record got stuck. But it got stuck so perfectly, and heck, being a Swell Maps record it sounded normal enough... for those of you who remember the vocals on that song, the record got stuck and repeated "Bbluh Llublah Wah Wang" over and over and over and over. The looping of the beat was so perfect that I must've listened for a half hour before realizing too much time had elapsed for there to be any room left for the other songs on that side. When I got the record replaced, I kinda missed the sound of the stuck part. For a long time, the real song didn't seem right. - -another the Paul - -----Original Message----- From: Robert Cambra To: idealcopy@smoe.org Sent: Mon, 3 Mar 2008 3:22 pm Subject: Subject: [idealcopy] bruce gilbert on this rare find items Thanks, Mileta! Presumably once the dynamic new manager Bradley Snelling (!) discovers Myspace it will be ready in a jiffy. Joking aside, despite the horrible chorus and wobbly jazz-fusion verses, the intro and middle-eight from Too Shy represent a bit of a definitive 80s pop moment. Can't argue with that bassline either! It works on one's aural perception. I remember having the distinct feeling it was messing with my brain! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Mar 2008 19:12:57 -0800 From: "johnny clash" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] cold day in hell - Kajagoogoo reform cringe On Mon, Mar 3, 2008 at 6:37 PM, Tim wrote: > I love the way it signs off saying they have a new website under > construction like thats some baffling new technology to get excited > about in 2008?!! > Presumably once the dynamic new manager Bradley Snelling (!) discovers > Myspace it will be ready in a jiffy. > > Joking aside, despite the horrible chorus and wobbly jazz-fusion verses, > the intro and middle-eight from Too Shy represent a bit of a definitive > 80s pop moment.
